Chrisbin
So the Boxster went in for its service with local specialist - just a minor this year First time its had a proper inspection since I bought it and it was pronounced to be a good one so more A week later driving home, changed from 2nd to 3rd and....gear lever stuck in middle plane, and no selection managed to limp it to specialist and he managed to fit it in within a week (took pity on me having to use Fabia pool car!). Got it back this weekend and despite the £'s, its again!
Nobbie
Did they have to fit a new set of cables? Seems to be one of the few issues with the 987.2. How much was the fix?
Chrisbin
Yep, end sheared off the one - the angle of the bracket creates the wear. Cost was £500ish (I’ve tried to forget!!)
balmybaldwin
what sort of mileage has the car done? (just wondering if i should be worrying about it)

Your bracket (eg damaged), or everyone's bracket? Should this be something that 987.2 owners should watch for?

Bravestarr
I have a 987.1 and mine had the cables changed at some point pre 50,000 miles. (there was a receipt for it in the bundle of history that I got with the car).

Bodge50
My cable broke on my old 987.1 s - no warning - local garage put new cables on ( around £500 ) --cable end popped off a couple of weeks later ! All linkages must be cleaned thoroughly before refitting . Bought cable clamps off Design911 which seemed to fix problem .Fair dos garage didn't charge any labour for fitting clamps so will go there again in future . Another little design fault by Porsche I'm afraid.
Porschemad
My 987.2 did exactly this at the same mileage........ immediately followed by having all the coolant pipes replaced for corrosion........ And then the starter motor torched itself. Unfortunately 987.2 has many of the 987.1 problems apart from the normal engine issues.
