If you want to prove that it's a 'packing away' issue, just pop off the white plastic balljoints which will effectively make the roof manual in operation. The clamshell will remain electrically operated. Stow the roof manually as carefully as necessary and then use the switch to close the clamshell. If the clamshell sits proud and is pressing on the roof fabric, this indicates packing issue.
