You'll think you have a new car. Have you done a full suspension refresh? That will then make it better still if you haven't.
Not had a full refresh but a spring broke so I had new front springs and top mounts. Looking forward to a nice drive this weekend.

Today I had Michelin PS4 fitted all-round, replacing the 11 year old Potenzas I was running. I've not yet tested them properly as I want to check the pressures and scrub them for a few miles but even on my gentle drive home, it was like night and day.

Yep, I am. I really enjoyed his most recent video. Brave man taking a multi-tool to his car!
-
Minor service and annual inspection at Porshacare followed by a nice drive back home down the local lanes. No nasty surprises - just the a/c condensers which I already knew about.
-
Fitted new wiper blades and got rid of the yellowing at the top of the headlights with some Turtle Wax headlight restorer. I wasn't expecting it to work as well as it did.

@faithlessworld I have the switch in my 986. My local independent specialist coded it for me.
This is the link to the device (which is no longer stocked) on eBay. If you click into the item description it gives some useful information on the device, videos etc.

What tyres
in 986
This is an interesting thread for me. My Bridgestone Potenza S02s aren’t even half worn but are 9 years old. I’m therefore thinking that next year I had better get a new set of tyres. Nobody seems to be giving the Bridgestones any love so I’m guessing I shouldn’t get them this time around!

Just measure your wiper blades and check against the web spec.
Thanks, that will work.

Mine are definitely no worse than last year when they weren’t an advisory but they do make a pretty horrible sound. I’ll work out which ones to get. I recall reading that the ones ECP suggest aren’t the correct ones. Does that ring any bells?
-
MOT passed. Advisory for poor wipers which I knew already but haven’t yet changed as I never really use it in the rain.

Had new Bosch plugs, plug tubes fitted and brake fluid changed at Porschacare followed by a top down spin in the glorious sun.

Taxed it after putting it on a SORN at the start of lockdown. Took my son out for a drive with the top down, perfect Boxster weather.

Each to their own @dunks, I can certainly see your point but I was looking during lockdown and thought I had found a great car 150 miles away. I don’t regret gettinf the inspection for a second. If it had been near enough and we’d been allowed to look at cars I would have spotted a number of the problems as they were pretty glaring but not all of them. If I do get a 996 in future I think I will spend a bit more and get one from a respected specialist with a warranty.
-
😂 yep exactly @zorbs! I gave permission for Strasse to let the seller have a copy of the report. The seller changed the advert ever so slightly by taking out “in superb condition”.

I used Strasse Porsche in Leeds to inspect a 996 recently. It was £150 plus VAT. Worth its weight in gold as although described as being in superb condition, the car had a LOT of issues including a ticking/knocking engine, badly leaking coolant tank, lots of suspension issues etc etc.

Got a link or part number for GSF?
@edc it was part 857440030 from Euro Car Parts. https://www.eurocarparts.com/search/857440030?type=shopping&gclid=CjwKCAiAo7HwBRBKEiwAvC_Q8UzNA_fq0BFLqDliaANjAVt4XMixubgEa6pyOMNlhffef9GXBNqWlxoCQ18QAvD_BwE
The link will ask you to select your make and model which was why I went for this one over the Design911 one which seemed to be for the 2004 model.

Changed the ignition switch - £15 part from ECP. Followed the guide from Pedro’s Garage: http://pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/Replace_Ignition_Switch.html
Incredibly fiddly to get under there (and I’m not exactly tall/big) and getting at the screws was a PITA. Managed it eventually!
-
Might have to take it for a night drive before the year is out!
-
Changed the dipped beam headlight bulb. Surprisingly satisfying!
-
😂 although I really have no excuse - I’ve owned the car since 2008!
-
Had new front springs, top mounts and bump stops fitted by Porshacare, plus a service. Also learned that if I had kept the key in the ignition when changing the battery a few weeks ago I wouldn’t have deafened myself with the alarm!
-
MOT passed with no advisories again. Took her for a nice little drive afterwards as a thank you!
-
Top down country lane drive with my three year old. Roll on spring and summer for more of those!
-
You’ve got more patience than me - I took mine to my local garage when that happened and they removed the stone. Cost about £20.
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

I did have this thought at the back of my mind when weighing up the PS4 or a set of Khumo Ecsta 71s. In the end, I decided that the £150 saving wasn't worth it over the course of 6-10 years.
