It will have Car Play. Mine is a 66 Plate. Use the USB in armrest and it works but not from glovebox

That is not 100% the case. My previous 718 (a 16 plate) did not have carplay. My current 66 plate does. The majority will but not all of them.

In anticipation of collecting my (new to me) late 2016 718S next week, im trying to establish what maps are on the PCM

it has option 7UG Navigation Module for Porsche Communication Management (PCM), and If I’m correct, it has the PCM4.0 Nav, but doesn’t have Car Play capability.

The dealer went out and checked with his phone last week  and couldn’t get it to work - It was built October 14, 2016 , so appears was right on the border of having it or not.

i doubt it has had a PCM map base map update since new - the dealer has said the latest SD card maps they have are dated 2020….

Is there any indication of if / when there will be a map update? I want to update the base maps but don’t want to do it now and find there is a mew update imminently expected..

also, any links / tips how to get CarPlay enabled on a PCM4 car that doesn’t have it enabled from factory? Dealer said Porsche cannot do it, but *ahem* there may be third parties that can…. Any suggestions / recommendations and idea on cost to do this ?

    thanks in advance

    Gerry

There is a lad that enables carplay remotely on the 718 forum. Done loads of cars and is really good apprently. I have car play in mine so can't vouch first hand.

The easiest way to look is if you have a USB port under the armrest between the seats. No USB no car play.

  3. In August 2016 I bought my 2013/13 2.7 Boxster for £35000 from Leeds OPC.

Currently on Autotrader there is a 62 plate 2.7 Boxster for £35000 from a Porsche Indy.

My current 718 is £2000 more on WBAC than I paid for it 18 months ago.

Trouble is every thing else has gone up too and when it is change time in 2 or 3 years you can guarantee prices will have tanked leaving loads of people in negative equity.

    I do! I forgot about that! 👍

The car has been fine and I recently moved to Indy servicing. Nearly 5 years of ownership

    Do you still have yours?

No, I had it for around 18 months,

Changed in to a 718 Cayman, then a 718S Boxster and now a Miami Blue 718S Boxster.

Good to see you still have yours. 👍

I would stick with the Indy route After 5 years of ownership I don't rate the OPC servicing from personal experience and customer focus and care.

If some thing goes wrong simply pay for the repair of the issue.

I wouldn't bother with an aftermarket warranty either. The money can be put towards the repair, if it is ever needed ...........................  (IMHO)

Do you still own the black one that you collected from Leeds the same day as we got ours?

Don't be silly, us customers are not to be trusted with anything due to lack of any brain matter !

Has lockdown wiped your memory of the condescending attitude from their service staff. After all, the "Gold class Technician" needs to work on something 🤣

And if we do it ourselves they can't try to scam us with a "health check" where our nearly new cars all need £1500 of work doing.

Guesswork since I don't have one of the affected cars - but are they talking about the "real world" view I have sometimes seen in loan cars rather than the "schematic" view I am used to? - I assumed the real world view was a feature of having the online services enabled in newer cars.

As to "two hours vs two days" - ages ago I inquired about a map upgrade on my PCM 3 system - local OPC were quite open that basically it takes about 3 hours but involves swapping dvd's every 45 mins to an hour so they do it "between other jobs" - and they don't tie up a service bay - just hook the car to a charger and come back to it as and when. They also said, sometimes the DVD's fail to read and we have to have a few goes - so 3 hours becomes a day or two.... My local OPC have always been very good with loan cars and said I could have a car for as long as it took if I went ahead etc. all made sense to me - assuming loan cars were available.

Perhaps the 2 days "quote" is coming from historical work on these older systems and not taking into account that it sounds like its much quicker on newer units.

The letter from Porsche about it says it takes an hour and my OPC said none of them have taken longer than 45 minutes.

    Hi,

I received a letter from Porsche explaining the satellite map view of the navigation function is no longer available in the display of the PCM or in the multi-function display in the instrument panel.  Has anyone else received a similar letter or had their software updated? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have rang my local dealer and have been booked in for September as they have no courtesy cars available before then, they have said they will need the car for the day maybe two (the letter says it will take about an hour).

    Thanks

Nonsense. I am booked for Tuesday next week. 45 minutes while I wait.

It is something to do with Google Maps no longer supporting the Sat Nav system and it has messed it up so needs a software download and update.
