  1. @Desiro this!

If you are planning on keeping the car I would suggest upgrading to joyeauto or similar. The system is active dated, a bit like hanging on to an old Nokia phone. Or upgrade the head unit. Use the car, enjoy and refit when you sell. The newer pcm3's can have car play retro fitted even by the opc, apparently.

    Just my 2c worth

  2. Mine is a july 2012 car with 40k showing. Owned for 5years, 17k.

    - Alarm siren

    - solenoid for cam x 1 (both      replaced)

    - Exhaust manifold bolts

    - Brake pedal bush

    - Drivers window switch

Some might say other parts have been replaced, it's a lie 😁

I know I'm probably going to regret asking but what does this mean?  Isn't it just as simple as swopping a bulb?

Canbus is a type of modern wiring system that detects fluctuations in voltage, think bulb out information on your dash for example. Some bulbs, mainly front and rear position lamps if not drawing the expected amount of electricity shows as a fault on the dash. The makers of LED style replacements run resistors to fool the system in seeing the correct load. In an effort to reassure you that you won't get errors that is the term used. Not always successful.

The bulbs i've linked to work in my car, i have them in the footwell, trunk, frunk and glovebox. On my PIWIS2 the frunk shows an error (bulb failure), however all work fine with zero errors on the dash.

I'm not an expert but its the way i think of it, hope that helps.

I think that from the outside the 981 front indicators are really naff and would be far better in LED form.

Anyone know if the front indicators can be done with an LED kit?

The front bulbs are mini- halogen. Tried to replace with led equivalent, however the light spread was poor. I left the originals in.

Got my letter from Porsche yesterday,  2012 (13MY) 981.  OPC Swindon wants to wait till Dec to make sure the parts arrive,

Pretty sure mine is the earlier version of firmware, I have the nmautomotive CarPlay for pcm 3.1 in my 981, underlying product is unichip. As @Mark Lane says, the joyeauto product seems to do the same thing, has a pcb installed inside the pcm along with an external box of tricks connected into the pcm loom.

If you wouldn't mind checking the firmware, next time you are in the car. Thanks

Strange as my car is a Feb 2013 and accepted the update. Was there a PCM hardware revision so early in the 981’s life? Offer still stands if you want to try the DVD. 👍🏻

Mines July 12.  There was a revision to the PCM mine wont accept a higher firmware. I fitted the joyeauto last year. It froze as soon as you asked it to do something. I needed android auto. Their technical couldnt help, kept insistng it was the cable. Having bought several it still didnt operate.

    Thanks again

I still have the DVD with software update v4.73 on it from when I updated my PCM maps a while ago. Happy to loan it to you if that helps. Feel free to DM me if you are interested.

Very decent to offer.  Mine is 3.76 or something. It's the earlier version that's lacking the hardware that yours has and won't update any higher.
