  1. Fitted the new ARBs (sway bars for our friends across the pond) and bushes without too much of a struggle - all nuts and bolts came apart without breaking. The Bentley manual suggests removing the bracing at the rear to remove the ARB, but i found that if a rear wheel is removed the bar can be manoeuvered out without doing so.

Took it for a quick spin to ensure it's all back together properly.  Hard to tell if there's much of an improvement today as there's a lot of water around and I didn't want to push it.

Can anyone with a 2003 or 2004 facelift 986S (3.2) manual tell me what the NOX is recorded as in their V5C?

My 2003 S is recorded as follows:

    NOx (g/km or g/kWh) 0.021

There is "No ULEZ Charge for this vehicle" according to TfL

  3. Checked it over and got it ready for trip to The Alps next Tuesday/Wednesday. In doing so I put the hood in to service position so that I could check the rear drain holes for crud. While I was in there I noticed that a lot of detritus seems to get trapped in the folds of the bottom-rear hood seal, looked like it's been there for ages as I suppose it's not something most people would look at, and it's not visible when washing the car normally, so that was cleaned out and treated too. Switzerland here we come! :thumbsup_still:

Fixed my roof! Well 99% and it's the best it's going to be. 2hrs of trying to align perfectly the left side to the right was an absolute nightmare, every mm makes a difference.

It's not perfect but I don't think it can be as things went a bit out of shape.

Be nice to actually get a roof down drive in this weather now! Fingers crossed!

Well done! I know what a bloody PITA it is to get aligned.  ?

Thanks, I was lucky it happened at home although before I was taking it out in the sun...

I don't have the Bentley manual sadly, but there's a bit about it in the 101 projects book and hopefully some YouTube vids.

There's definitely a YT video of two blokes straightening the clamshell. If you do need more info I could post some of the relevant chapters from the Bentley manual if it helps.

    Good luck!

No paint damage thankfully, I'm not sure, but looking online it doesn't seem to be an uncommon fault for these cables to fail over time.

Will ring OPC tomorrow and order a cable. I don't think refitting the cable looks too bad, it's going to be getting everything perfectly re aligned that's going to be a challenge.

Supposed to be driving to Sussex in it on Thursday eve so looks like that won't happen now.

You're right, it's not that bad a job to do, just a bit fiddly.  I had it happen to mine last summer when miles from home and had to disconnect it from the ball joints before slowly driving it home.

The Bentley manual was very detailed in showing how to replace the cable and resetting the drive gearbox if you need to. I also had to straighten the clamshell with my OH's help which had become slightly bent as a result of twisting and wouldn't sit right after replacing the drive cable.

    Hope you get it sorted!

  7. Apologies for the pic heavy post but I thought I'd share this recently completed project.

I fitted the Xtrons unit a few weeks ago and as it's an unusual size, there isn't a suitable surround available so I thought I'd have a go at making one.

    Hope this works?

  8. Washed it for the first time since getting back from the run to the Brecon Beacons a couple of weeks ago (lazy I know).

Didn't want to take it for a run after washing to dry the brakes off as the road past our house is very muddy from being dug up for fibre broadband installation.

So I improvised with some "boots" to keep the wheels dry and removed and washed each wheel individually to keep water out of the brake disc.

Might just adopt this method every time I wash it from now on! B)

  9. Got busy with the soldering iron after deciding to do something about my low speed fans on both sides not working. Using the link/guide I found on this forum to swap the OE ballast resistors for the much cheaper RS component.

Passenger side done tonight, driver's side tomorrow night (hopefully....)!
