If it ain't (fully broke), don't fix it.
My 1-2 change when cold can be occasionally greeted with a crunch. I make sure i fully depress the clutch all the way to the carpet, as opposed to the most of the way speed shift, and select second in a manly and quite frankly rather virile way and this method doesn't result in any crunch.
These 6 speed boxes are known for the first to second synchro wear but my 986 is on a good day at best worth <6k and a 3k repair is not something I'm going to do as 95% of the time I have no issue.
At least you know your car will be mechanically on top form when you get it done, even if it stands you at the value of a later model.

Little end bearings? Must be one of those crystal ball diagnoses. Small end makes a rattle, big ends a knock.
Selecting gears and driving but clonking and banging is more likely DMF and/or clutch, mounts etc.
-
Top mounts and bearings.
Or red neck it and squirt in some GT85/WD40 or similar , it wont fix it but it will make it quieter 🤡
-
Mine does a sort of anti stall if you dip the clutch as I pull up to lights sometimes. Having changed my clutch and DMF when i first got the car i can say the DMF is a properly large mass so may be guilty.

Just go on the bay of evil and put i think 48mm decibel killers, but whatever the internal diameter of the actual inner pipe is. I bought the longer ones which are not that long. They're meant for bikes really but are short enough. i used a cobalt drill and put a small hole in each of the exhaust pipes underneath then drilled the internal steel pipe so i could hold them in place with short cap head M6 bolts dabbing on some thread lock. They can be used as is and leave the 'end cap' on or i took the end cap off but exhaust wadding wrapped them.
this sort of thing the actual ones i bought were cheaper as a pair but it's still not pricey.
i did try just putting the db killers previously held on the inside by friction by the bolts and when I gave it the berries one shot out like a scene from a Bond film hence the belt and braces approach.
When i get time i'll do an experiment in the name of Boxster science and lob it on and may even do one of those new fangled video things.
I found the drone was spot on 70mphg so you need to do 65 or 75 . Not actually a problem with the roof down but it was a bit loud on cam, but i liked it!
I did get nominated for chav exhaust award on a group drive out once.

I have one of those TOYO SPORT jobs as my old OE box did the seam rot thing. I bought a used OE one but kept the TOYO in the shed of doom. I have fitted two 38mm decibel killers wrapped in exhaust wadding and was going to do a test of it.
The cheapy has a simple bracket that uses the OE bolt mounts, this is part of the exhaust and non-removable on mine.

Nice work.
Surely that can't be an original IMSB , after all the internet states that if you even try to start an M96 it will immediately grenade itself

Ditched the 'performance' air filter which was falling apart for standard and changed the auxilliary belt. Also cleaned the engine bay while i was in there.

Got mine on last week, as the suspension is slightly tired it has made a discernible difference and is allowing the Michelin PS4's to really dig in. Nice to have a low cost mod that actually has an effect.

I got a new one from the bay of evil

Having finally replaced my condensers and drier had the A/C re-gassed before my Groupon voucher ran out. Lovely ice cold A/C a bit late given today's weather but useful for clearing inside the windscreen on those cold autumn/winter morning runs.
-
I did a Groupon purchase (£38 )for ATS Euromaster to regas my A/C , they do a no charge if it is faulty. Mine was very faulty , the guy doing the nitrogen pressure test described it as
"It just pi$$ed out at the front off side" new condensers and drier next month after pay day it is then..........

Replaced the cat on the nearside, when i tried to remove the O2 sensor at the end of the cat (off the car luckily) there was a big crack and the O2 sensor rotated along with the corroded boss collar! the exhaust blow was hole caused by corrosion around the O2 boss weld.
Soon sorted ,new cat fitted and now no blow in the exhaust and the car actually feels a bit....peppier.
-
Wired up the nearside fog light for some symmetry, it was annoying me..........

As a key worker I'm looking forward to going to work next week 😁
Only do days I'm needed so 60 mile round trip I can afford the fuel , especially at the current price.

I'm currently upgrading the stereo to a double din, what fun this has been as I'm retaining the factory amp.
Fitted the microphone into the dash position, put one of the USB ports into dash switch blanks and have found that there are LOTS of sharp metal protrusions under the dash.
Been social distancing in the car 😁

Interested to hear how night time driving is with the LED's.
Do you have any pics of the beam pattern (ie against a wall) compared to the halogen?
TBH struggling to get out in the dark to check things out. I'll update when I can as it may encourage/discourage others to do the LED conversion based on my field trial......

Dipped and main are separate H7 bulbs (986, Halogen) with the lens dealing with Hi/Lo aim, so just changed the bulbs out and tried turning them on. Yet to do a night time test to check aim and beam spread etc, so have retained the standard Halogen ones JIC.
Fitted LED bulbs sold as headlight bulbs, with cooling fans to see how the heat build up is dealt with inside the lamp unit. Fogs are non fan sold as Fog only.

Rear trunk lid struts replaced after being tw*tted on the head too many times and fitted LED head, side and fog lights.

I've posted these thoughts a few times over but these exhausts sound best with the eBay manifolds. Less drone and an overall better tone.
I have the manifolds as well, still droned in cabin at 65-70.
Some believe that the issue is created as the two 'mufflers' (oxymoron) are not linked/balanced.
They're cheap so you have to accept the compromise.

I had one fitted (3.2 S) to get through the MOT as the OE had rotted at the usual seams.
Fit is ok went straight on but i fabricated a simple bracket to support the cats as these don't have the mounting 'loops' of the OE exhaust, not exactly needed but if the factory do it i'm in.
They sound great especially on cam BUT and it is a big but they are boomy at about 65-70mph to the extent it gets on your nerves if you happen to be doing a long journey on a motorway so 60 or 80 is the usual less annoying speed. No vids I'm afraid.
When I went out on a meet I was awarded the 'Chav exhaust' unofficial winner accolade, still haven't received my can of extra strong Cider for that.
I've still got it in the shed ,all yours cheap, PM if interested.

Had the tyres changed, Michelin PS4's all round for £508 at Black Circles, Bletchley.
Not a rattle gun in sight for the wheel nuts ,all done with hand tools and torqued down properly.
-
Prep for MOT included, removal of 'chav' exhaust box and fitting of good used item, adjusted handbrake and replaced brake fluid without breaking any bleed nipples- yay!
Just waiting for a leather touch up kit to tidy up the drivers seat.
Also need to cahnge the tyres all round but that needs to wait to pay day.....

The adverts on Aliexpress show they fit all 986, but didn't the facelift have a different shape spoiler or do they not 'fill the void' as it were ?

Fitted a LUk when I changed my clutch, reasonable price and OE quality.
