Time in my hands and what better way to spend it, working on the car.
Fresh Millers oil and filter, air filter, cabin filter, new serpentine belt.
The car is new to me, so very happy with the oil filter.
The old sixteen inch rims with decade old tyres have gone. Fully refurbished BBS classics fitted with Michelin PS4’s.
New Bluetooth dongle for the Becker Indianapolis pro.
Love getting this car ready for later in the year.Don't wait until later in the year... Get it out as often as possible now... Get the shopping in it, I went and collected 6 bags of topsoil in mine on Sunday... Top down.. essential trip.

Mot and taxed for the year. Needed a handbrake cable. Not bad! Got the garage to do an oil change too. Mobil 1. I inspected the filter once done... No bits at all.😊 Happy bunny.

I wonder if mated with manifolds and then a cross over pipe retro-fitted, that they would have more tone and less drone?
Nope...... They are thin shyte!

They can ruin the pleasure of the drive... Go for the OEM part or a high quality aftermarket. I have heat wrapped mine th reduce the drone and as you get some miles in, it will reduce further... Be warned.. They are cheap for a reason!

So, set out to address the corrosion on the brake line that filed the MOT, see above. Opened up the car, though I'll let both windows down to cool it and as the passenger side went down, crunch. Window regulator now U/S. Have got the window more or less up and as I have a half cover no worries about water ingress.
Any good/bad advice on replacement process and or second hand (£75-80), Porsche OE (£260) or other OEM spec (£100-180) replacement part?
I did at least finally fir the two air deflectors to the front of the wheel arches and even had to drill out two of the self tappers that secure them, had spares fortunately so one job complete. 👍
Oh, and the brake line shows slight pitting even after a through clean and a bit of ticking with emery cloth, so I guess it will not be passed. Old cars eh? ☹️
I have just posted a thread on the regulator swap... Went 2nd hand and greased it all before assembly. Sime decent YouTube vids to guide... Mark positions of glass in clamps and location of bottom guides before removing.

Wrapped the mufflers of the cheap drone laden exhaust with heat wrap tape and secured with large stainless clips. Wish I had done it months ago as the car is pleasant to drive again! Drone much reduced at the 1800- 3000 rpm level. Think I will refrain from pushing Brillo pads up the pipe for now! ??

Finally got around to changing the plugs and coils on bank 2. Did bank 1 3months ago! ?? the two coil bolt heads on the rear most cylinder were badly corroded but thankfully I could get enough purchase to free them. Rear discs and pads next, more stubborn bolts ? to come!

Just saw this. Will try doing that with the cap, as only ever really do short trips anyway. That was a bargain for the tank and cap. I paid about £20 for an 04 cap recently. Risky buying a used tank though, knowing my luck I would probably buy a duff one.
Hence I found a late aftermarket replacement. the tanks yellow with age. Somebody has a replacement tank just before the car was scrapped.... Sadly These motors are all only one shunt or major mechanical away from the breakers. ?

I had a nice drive in it for the first time in ages, despite the coolant leak. Had plenty distilled water on standby in the boot. Drove steadily (mostly) coupled with the lower temperatures these days, meant I dod not loose too much at all.
If you release the coolant cap after a short trip that will help stop the tank expanding... My replacement 2nd hand tank was £40 and included the later 04 cap. try and buy the "whitest" tank if you do.

Yeah. I love shopping (?) I tend to stand outside the shops browsing BoXa.net or sit in a coffee shop - hate crowds/shops/etc ?
Chester Porsche is also at Cheshire Oaks!??

If you do the boat museum, the obligatory Cheshire Oaks is only around the corner to keep the ladies happy!

-
Booked the mot....Sat 9am whilst you wait.... Will make sure it's up to temp and hope the emission gods are smiling on me!

MOT due this week.... Thank you officer for reminding me!? had a main bulb blow...... Love the engineering in this little car.. Proper bung in the wing, lovely crank action to release the unit.. Satisfying slide back in the housing and another wholesome click back into place.. God loves German engineering!?

looked at it and thought how classical it looked. ?

Swapped my 00 coolant cap for an 04 version... Still lost a litre over a 20 mile drive... Boot floor is dry, no moisture around the cap... Tank felt dry underneath... I have had a small pool just in front of the rear wheel but it was wet today so could not check. Any suggestions ?

Ok I will need to scan the list because there is no way I'm typing it so you will have to wait a day or so
Just as interested to hear what you did in Brighouse for two days!☺

ordered a new expansion tank and hose clip pliers... Pulled the carpet out of the boot and had a look at the engine bay to locate the hoses that will need un doing. They are deep in the bowels and I might need to hire a 10 yr old to get their hand in there!
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?
