I wouldn't be refitting that either.  Joyeauto seems far more reliable.

Seemed like a better option at the time no external box to locate, fully integrated and wireless Android Auto too. Unfortunatly looks like it was money down the drain 😢

    Removed my Isudar board 😢

Driving today and PCM display went blank and sound cut out. Phone showed it was still connected to the board via Bluetooth and WiFi.

Took out the PCM checked all connections just in case something had somehow worked its self loose after months use.

All connections seemed OK, re installed with no change.

Removed the PCM, open heart surgery to remove the board, closed up and reinstalled into car and all OK, even the integrated Bluetooth working again which hasn't worked since the board was installed.

I do find it a little odd that it should fail after I applied yet another update a couple of days ago to fix another issue with the the sound and connection

Really disappointed as I loved having Android Auto, but not sure it's worth the hassle anymore.

Email sent to Kimi and will wait to find out what she suggests

I just picked up my first Cayman and fell into the same issue. I have the button for a phone but it does nothing!

Did the Isudar add Bluetooth functionality? I have Nav but no phone.

I have the button, and prior to installing the Isudar board i had a fully working bluetooth connection to my PCM for phone and Aux Bluetooth, however now whenever I select Phone it tells me bluetooth is off, I select switch bluetooth on, and get a message saying switching on, but it never does!

Kimi from Isudar replied saying it could possibly be fixed by an update and me asking for a photo of my version number which i sent over a week ago, and i've had no reply since.

I've asked on this forum and elsewhere but most people seem to prefer using the Android / Apple phone functionality, however saying hey google only works some of the time, and  I'm still having volume issues with the phone, the setting in Isudar settings is at 40 for in-call volume, all others are at 36 so in theory the phone should be louder than anything else, but as soon as a call connects i have to turn up the volume to be able to here anything, and then it's deafening when it returns to the music!

Seriously considering removing the board to see if my bluetooth comes back!

  4. All done today.

Pretty sure one of my cats may have been replaced at some time as one side had standard 13mm bolts tacked to the cat side, and the other had circular collars tack welded with a press fit stud through the middle

Drivers side wasn't too bad, managed to break the tack welds on the captive heads the on cat side so easy to remove once I'd sheared off the rusty bolt.

Passenger side a little more tricky as the bolts had already sheared leaving tiny stumps of the bolts. Managed to press them out eventually with a bit of perseverance.

All reassembled with new gaskets, bolts and washers.

  5. Would the recall for the rear subframe support work have involved the removal of the back boxes??

Been monitoring the deterioration of my cat to back box joint studs and noticed no real deterioration in the 1st 5 months of my ownership so decided to leave well alone (although I do have the bolts and gaskets to replace).

Less than a month on and 2 weeks after my recall work was completed I've had a failure on the nearside with both studs completely destroyed, and looks like the offside may be very close to failure.  Just seems a little coincidental.

Looks like it's backboxes off tomorrow and see if I can get the remnants of the studs out of both sides without disturbing the manifolds 😱

I use one of these if I'm parked anywhere unfamiliar. Probably off-putting for the casual thief, surely no problem for a professional?

Then again, a pro probably isn't considering my car.

Yep only a detterent, if the thieving scum want it they'll take it I'm sure 😢

StopLock Pro.  If you position your wheel ~90 degrees ish to the left the Stoplock rests on the PDK lever nicely, so no pressure on the leather - or if you're posh Alcantara!

    StopLock

Snap, that's how I put mine on, took me a while to get used to leaving the steering wheel in that position, but do it unconsciously now 😀

Cabrioshield.  I use mine each time the car's in/out and it's a piece of cake to fit/remove.

I'd also advise treating both your hood and the cover with Fabsil Gold & putting a good StopLock on which seeing as you need to open/close the door to use the cover is just part of the routine.

Thanks, maybe I will bite the bullet and go straight for the cabrioshield 🤔

Roof was treated with a Protex World Convertible Soft Top care kit

shortly after I bought her, came highly recommended from a friend. Can't compare to the fabsil as not used it.

Already have and use the Stoplock Pro after researching on here back in August 👍🏻

I had one of those originally.

The cover will sweat , causing condensation as the fabric isn't breathable.

It'll be fine if you just want to use it overnight but it's not designed for long-term use, unlike the £££ one.

OK thanks for that, mine is a daily driver and very rarely sits for more than a day.

I think I'll chance it and if its not great and doesn't work out for my needs I'll bite the bullet and buy the cabrioshield

Expensive but really good, breathable so prevents moisture collecting/sweating.

I have one , which I was lucky enough to pickup from the forum for my 987.2

    Ouch

Just found this one from UK Custom Covers Porsche Boxster 981 Tailored Half Cover- Black (2012-2016) (ukcustomcovers.com) which looks very similar but not breathable at 1/3rd the price. Might take a chance on it.

You could use a half cover if there is a chance of heavy frost?

been thinking of a half cover anyway to protect the roof, and hopefully prevent any drain issues!! Any recommendations?

On the 986, and I assume following models, there is a second seal below the external window seal you can see. In my experience it is this lower second seal which remains frozen to the window preventing the window from dropping. I have a credit card sized ice scraper which I  run along the second seal to free it. Window drops immediately.

Thanks, I suspect that may be the case on the 981 too, I ran my nice warm fingers along the upper seal and that defrosted the glass in that area and the seal seemed to be free, however the window still wouldn't budge.

I suspect I'll get the chance to take another look at it tomorrow morning, or maybe I'll just steal the wife's car and leave mine at home

  13. Hi Guys,

Experienced my first real problem this morning!!

We had a heavy frost last night (I'm a southern softie so not really used to it) and my Boxster is my daily and lives on the drive. When I unlocked her and attempted to open the drivers door the window wouldn't (couldn't) drop. I cleared the frost from along the window seal, but it still wouldn't drop I could hear the motor try. I gently opened the door with the window in the full up position thinking while I was de-icing the rest of the car with everything set to demist, and the door closed (not properly as the window was still fully up) that it may defrost enough to work. Worked my way around the car de-icing, got back to drivers door, lifted the handle and the window still wouldn't drop!! And now wouldn't operate on the switch either. After the initial panic had subsided a little I got out my phone and asked google, with very few results except a few for reset procedure which all required you to be able to open and close the window!! Panic started to rise again and I tried the switch again in case by some magic it had fixed itself, which was lucky as it now rolled almost all the way down!! Ah a sigh of relief, closed door, pressed button to roll up window and, window rolls all the way up and then halfway back down!! Hmmm try again same result. Press open, window runs all the way down. Press close, window runs all the way up, then back down half way. A brainwave strikes me, inch it up until its almost full closed and drive to work. Arrive at work, gently pull the handle to open the door, window doesn't drop 😱. Give in, inch window down until its just clear of the seal, close door, lock car and go into work!!

Fast forward 2 hours and I decide to go and have another play. window is exactly as I left it (well what did I expect), unlock car and open door, window doesn't move. Run window up and down a few times with no issue and I'm now think its fixed itself, then I remember that I have the door open and the window now fully up! Bang my head against steering wheel a few times, and I suddenly remember the reset procedure. I follow the instructions with my fingers crossed, and all seems OK, except I'm still stuck with the window fully up and the door open. I abandon all hope, switch off the ignition to go back to work. Go to shut the door and remember I need to drop the window so I can shut it, put key in ignition switch on and window drops slightly 🎉🎉

And now to the point of this post, well other than as a warning to other not to be an idiot and try to open the door with a frozen window! I know that there must be a few other mad individuals who use there Boxster as a daily and don't have the luxury of a heated garage to keep them in so what do you do to prevent this from happening??

    Thanks in advance

I've only used the port once for a software update so have not bothered finding a home for it. Do you plug your phone into It?

No don't routinely plug it in, but like the simplicity of being able to access it easily should I need it.

Did you not fancy adding it inside the cubby so the phone doesn't move around when you drive?

I didn't install the usb cable at first, as I use wireless Android Auto and assumed I never need it, however when I had to update to fix several issues I had to remove the whole unit again just to connect up the cable. Initially I simply routed it through the centre console into the cubby. I thought it would be tidier having a panel mount port mounted in the base of the cubby for future use / updates.

Just need to find another cubby and rubber mat to tidy it up for V2.

Had PSE fitted at RPM Specialist Cars in Knaresborough. It's been on order since August, so took a while for the parts to come in! I must say, it sounded great on the short blast when they brought it back😁

Just to add, I did not buy the sports tips, as the original stainless ones were in great fettle.

    Cost comparison to OPC??

Which one though, I get mixed reports on all of them. I need one that works without steering wheel controls and wireless Android not iphone.

Also need to check on warranty implications, I'm Ok about no warranty on the headunit afterwards but does it void it for the whole car?

I've just installed the Isudar one, no external interface box, and no additional power supply required so a simpler installation, it can also use the integrated mic and possibly the USB (got to check this one though). I've got sport design steering wheel so no steering wheel controls and all working fine so far.

Wireless Android auto works on my Samsung S20FE 👍🏻

Looks great and sounds ideal, how much was the kit and how long did it take to fit?

It was approx €280 delivered to the UK.

Took me about 20minutes to get the PCM out and onto the kitchen table. About an hour to open it up, add the new PCB, internal cables, route out the ones that needed to come outside, and re assemble. Then another 30 minutes or so to plug into car and test, then refit.

So all in less than 2 hours I'd say.

I must add I'd watched numerous videos on opening and adding various options before attempting.

The supplied user and installation guide was no use whatsoever 🤯

Is it worth the money, only time will tell, but so far I'm happy 😁

Withy (maybe 🥴) was the one who pointed me in the direction of this one. He's had another type and suggested that this was simpler and maybe a little better.

Search android auto for my post, and that contains his link to his post 👍🏻

  19. Fitted the Isudar Android Auto to my PCM 3.1 today.

No external box required with this one, so a little cleaner to install than some other options. Have to say I'm really impressed so far, full wireless Adroid Auto with my Samsung S20FE, I didn't even fit the USB cable or mic as it seems to work fine with the original inbuilt ones!!
