Hi Jonners the GT4 shifter is very easy to fit as it comes complete with an aligning tool and adds to the sportiness, of course probably all in the mind 😃 but I liked it.

A good plastic prizing tool to take off the side panels etc is the only extra. Good luck.

I changed the shifter in my 987S to a porsche short shifter. I've watched a couple of videos on changing the 981 shifter and it looks even more straight forward.

I'll add it to the to do list!

    Thanks for the reply.

  2. Mine was a little sloppy, changed to a factory short shifter and it made a bit difference.

There is still a little side to side play but tighter than before and the shorter shift is much improved.

Would definitely recommend if you have the budget (was approx £250 from porsche 2 years ago)

Clean the area of damaged pipe down (provided it isn't totally crushed), key the surface, repair it with an Araldite poultice. Buy a Groupon coupon for £38 and take it to ATS. They will pressure test the system and tell you if it leaks. They'll then gas it up if ok or tell you it's leaking. (You can then claim a refund on the coupon if it fails).

It could need far more to repair it so be prepared for condensers at least (£80 a pair if you fit them yourself)

You should really change the drier if the system has been left empty for any period of time. They are less than £15, come with seals and are a 15 minute job to fit.

My aircon stopped working some time ago, I presumed it was the condensers so ordered some new ones and fitted, along with a new drier. Ordered a regas from ATS via Groupon, only to find there was a leak elsewhere!

It's just been in for a service, so I asked them to check where it could be leaking from. They found the leak, typically its on a bend.

Think I'll give the above a go, is this the correct Araldite:

    Hi guys

I have finally pushed it too far. Ive had a designtek switchable exhaust on for about a year, and decided to put the race manifolds on as well.

Got those fitted along with an induction kit. And im about to say something that I never thought I would ever say.

    Its far too loud :(

Has anyone else done the same and had the same issue?

    I can't believe what I'm reading 😂

Last year was suspension refresh, 2022 is the year of brakes.

I’m confident on the items for the discs, pads, sensors etc but it’s the following items that I could do with some help on.

Is it worth changing the bleed nipples over to stainless items, if so does anyone have any links please. And do they go in with aluminium anti-seize when swapping?

For the calliper hard pipes (not the ones underneath that link the two sides of the calliper) is it best to go OEM or do people make their own up? Mine are very rusty.

I’m planning to fit braided flexi hoses, does it matter who makes them - Goodrich etc? Good source for these?

I already have a GT3 master cylinder which arrived from Germany yesterday so that will go in the mix. Are there any modifications to the hard lines to the BMC required? The inlets seem to be M12 x 1.0 thread, is that the same as the original version so it’s an easy swap?

I’m accumulating all the parts first, and then plan to fit all the items above in one go so I only have to bleed the system once.

    Any guidance appreciated.

Where did you aquire the GT3 master cylinder from? It's a mod I've been looking into.

    Cheers!

Wait for the rear camber/toe link bolts to be seized too!!!  Otherwise rear is much like the front.  I took the drives shafts off of the drive flange on the gearbox as I had no way to generate the torque required to undo the hub nut.  A bit fiddly to refit (lots of extensions the ratchet) but makes it a DIY doable job.

Fingers crossed the SnapOn rattle gun is up to the job!

Yep. Time you're finished you'll have enough money in there to have paid someone to do it.....

    Winter project!

Quite enjoyed doing the front, hopefully rear will be the same!

    Get your swear box ready!!!

Haha! Front ones weren't too much of a problem. Fingers crossed the backs follow suit!

I'm buying bits for a full rear suspension refresh. Presume it's pretty similar to doing the front, just need to disconnect the drive shafts.

  9. Can someone just confirm the front and rear droplinks on the 987 are the same?

All the ones listed on ebay just seem to say front droplinks. The ones on design911 say suitable for front and rear.

    Cheers!

Shocks, springs, top mounts, tie rod ends, coffin arms and tuning forks. Changed the drop links and arb bushes about 18 months ago, which was the first time I had ever done any 'significant' work on a car in my life so this refresh is a major undertaking! But as. I am retired I have plenty of time and I've done plenty of research on here and YouTube plus I have the 101 projects book so 🤞

It was the first major work i've carried out on mine too.

If you have all the right tools it's relatively straight forward. Have you an impact wrench? Very useful!

Started the prep work for my front suspension refresh. Got the car up on jack stands and ramps and gave relevant parts a good dose of Plusgas.Y7BKgjm.jpg

Very happy with my recently purchased Sealey rocket jack, which makes things so much easier than the basic Halfords one I normally use. (thanks to @Gutleyfor the recommendation).Q4AeHXq.jpg

Thinking this stands and ramp set up will work well when I get to the transmission oil change, which is next on list.

How much of a 'refresh' are you doing?

I recently had a broken front spring and ended up replacing everything. Feels so much tighter (although I do have a squeak/creak!)
