  1. I've got to say, my manual 987 was far better than my PDK 981 on snow, both with winter tyres on I might add. I had 18" Dunlop Winter Sports (N0) on the 981 and probably some cheapo Kuhmo 17" tyres on the 987.

I didn't have a huge list of things to address on the 981 - just the normal maintenance items like brakes and stuff.

The 987 with an extra 5 years needed coolant and air con pipework replacing (pin pr*cks in the pipes), new condensers (prone to stone chips without a grill in place) and coil packs and the exhaust bolts replacing.

Both cars were 2.7 and great in their own right. The 987 was a very capable daily and used to go around France without problem (other than limited boot space for the boxes of wine), the 981 was bought just before Buttercup and I've worked from home since, so never got the same usage. I don't doubt it would be similar though.

  2. My Boxster journey is coming to an end, a bad back has meant less and less use of the car over the last few months. The trouble is I can't find anything out there that I can/want to replace it with. They're either too uncomfortable, too dull or too expensive (and possibly too uncomfortable too, if it's too expensive I've not tried) 😟

..& hopefully in a safe place away from any other sliding cars.

On a straight stretch of road that has been gritted, the problem is the mile of narrow, twisty road up to our house... By the time I realised it was too bad to get back up, it was too late and there was nowhere to turn until the bottom. 😑

    I'd have another 2CV in a heartbeat.

My wife has a 2CV for her summer fun car, she loves it, I think it's the devil's spawn.

  5. A bit dull really...

    Talbot Samba > Peugeot 205 > Austin Maestro > Daihatsu Charade Turbo > Peugeot 205 > Ford Escort > Rover 400 > Ford Focus > Ford Focus > Ford Focus > Mini Cooper > Mini Cooper > Mini Countryman > Volvo V40 > Porsche 987 > Porsche 981 > ?

Always wanted a Mexico and an Aston, never drove either until after owning a Porsche and the comparison has put me right off both. Yeah, I know they're different beasts, but smiles per gallon and all that.

981 will be going soon due to me getting old... 😟

At least though, it doesn't have a bloody great tablet sitting in the middle of the car where everything you need is, forcing yourself to take your eyes off the road🤔

I quite like it for an EV.

That tablet isn't as intrusive as it seems, but yeah, I'd prefer it to be through the wheel, and for the car to have a few more buttons in general.

Lovely car (dodgy colour). Quick as poop off a spade. If you're in for an EV, definitely worth considering.

However,  if I had this kind of money, personally,  I'd be sat in a 992.

I do like EVs and consider myself a definite potential buyer for the e718 or whatever it will be called, but that big battery graphic would put me right off

  8. Well, the original guesstimate for the Taycan was £65k if I remember correctly, they missed that one. I'd say an entry price of about that is probably realistic. It's gonna be way past the 2025 forecast date if its taking them a couple of years for a GTS, so I'll probably get something else (pre-loved) in the meantime. F-Type or M2 maybe.

  9. I’m sure it’s a hoot, and I like the colour. Sounds like some of the usual age related problems have been sorted, worth enquiring about the others… I spent £12k on a 987 a few years ago and then another £3k on fixing stuff.

  10. Enjoy...

One thing I have noticed driving a Porsche in France is that people appreciate the car more - thumbs up, waves, etc. I've never had anything like that over here, just a couple of young teens telling me to "boot it".

  11. The WBAC offer on my 2013 Boxster is now less than I paid for it in early 2020, after a high of almost £5k more (that I saw at least).

I was quite disappointed when I saw the price drop, not that I'm seriously looking to sell but I am always browsing...

Booked the Cayman into Dovehouse for a service on 26th July.  I know the servicing schedule for Porsche is supposed to be every two years, but I think that's too long between oil changes and without any inspections.  They had it in for a major service a year ago, and I've only done approx 4000 miles since - My God, this car is being pampered

To be fair, I haven't spent a penny on it in the past year (apart from a set of Zunsport grilles), so I think that says a lot about the build quality of the 981.

I tried to get mine serviced last year but they refused to do it as it had only done 2000 miles since they'd had it in the previous year. They did a couple of other minor things, but refused to do the service.

I empathise. If I could create a route in Google maps and use said route on the PCM my phone would stay in my pocket too. I suspect I may now be told how I can use something 'in car'  for that task but unless its as simple and cheap as eating chips it will not appeal. 😁

Not cheap as chips, granted, but I got the JoyeAuto thing installed with wireless connectivity to the phone for all that stuff. Generally happy with it, but occasionally it's a bit laggy when using the satnav and needs to be plugged in.
