    £1300 depreciation

18 months ago I bought a 987.1 box for  £11.3k based on the knowledge that I'd have to spend on it (pre-inspection pushed the dealer's asking price down). If I'd taken the dealer offer at the weekend (against a >£35k Cayman), I'd have lost £4.5k.

Meh. Cheeky dealer of course, and I know the sport editions are still advertised for a minimum of what I paid (approx - cat C on auto trader is an exception). Decided to stick with what I've got for the moment at least. Depreciation is a tricky one.

  2. After spending Christmas and New Year away, got back and had a good drive from Lancashire to Yorkshire and back... Nothing too spirited, but the cobwebs have gone.

Now back to thinking about upgrading to a 981/718 PDK! On the one hand the 987 manual is absolutely fine, but on the other I always crave newer things...

  3. So, the headlight tool is bound to split this weekend when I go to put my new indicator bulb in... I broke a socket putting my winters on last weekend, but then it was from a very old set. That's my excuse anyway.

And yesterday I got a puncture in one of the newly fitted winter wheels.

I think the car is telling me it's time to get that 981 or even 718. And it is Christmas after all.

  4. Considered px'ing my 987 for a 2 yo 718 yesterday... not going to happen, at least not yet.

The 718 was a lovely car, different sound (gruffer - all been said before, I'm sure), quicker and certainly more modern and refined in the interior. However, after my 987SE it felt like it lacked a little... soul? Perhaps a better test drive (longer, not p*ssing down) would change that, but there we go. I don't like the cheap gimmick key though. I'm not 12...

If I'd looked at it straight after my previous car (V40 D4) I probably wouldn't have batted an eyelid and would have have handed over my Visa card.

Didn't help that I thought their part ex valuation was derisory.

So, had a little run around afterwards. Nothing too exciting (did I mention the weather?) but a bit of dual carriageway, some country lanes...

  5. Yesterday I put some air in the tyres...

Today I'm going wild and going to tackle the groaning frunk strut (I always think that, as a Brit, it should be a froot...). Might even check the grills for leaves and look for those drain holes.

All depends on the weather of course!
