  1. Took her for an early morning run around the Cotswolds - got waves back from an 18 plate Boxster, a 10 plate Cayman but not the X reg Boxster. She’s pig filthy now so going to give her a quick wash - who else on here is in the Cotswolds apart from our site Princess?

Mrs loves it, think I've lost it lol. Must admit, having always wanted to own a Porsche, Now I'm about to turn 50, was a perfect excuse!!! I absolutely love it. Why did no one tell me to buy one before!!

No one told you how little they cost - I bought mine nearly 4 years ago and had to buy a new DD at the same time - so got a 2 year old Fiesta and a 10 year old Porsche for the same price as a new Ford Fiesta - and being over 40 the insurance is cheap 👍

Handbrake shoes weren't looking great & since the discs wwere being replaced...

My handbrake was the same. Don't know how to describe them but the little links at the drums were seized & needed freeing up. May be the same with you.

Lee at Cotswold Porsche said my handbrake will need doing when I next do my disks, might just get away with not doing them when the MOT is up in March, but I'm starting to put the money aside for it now 😒

I think it needs to happen.

Front Tyres first, Michelins PS5 I think. Then Carnewal just after new year. Early birthday gift to myself.

I can listen to my Carnewall all day long...often turn off the radio to just listen to the rumble instead.. you wont be disappointed 😊

Consider getting the thermostat replaced at the same time as the pump.

I asked Lee about fitting a low temp thermostat at the same time as I had read about that, but he said not really worth it, it only opens things up a little earlier at a lower temperature, and seeing as there is a crack in the main coolant cross pipe that runs from front to back I'm putting the money on that instead.

  6. Gone with AA  at £11.30 a month covering me in any vehicle - onward travel - night in hotel if needed and car relayed to choice of garage - registered the box and my fiesta - this was after the RAC left me & Mr997 stranded for 18hrs and having to try to sleep in the car because the RAC don't have any flatbeds in their fleet - they sub contract that side of things out...very badly!

Dropped the windows and the passenger side regulator went bang!

Got window manually up and car locked. Hopefully get it fixed next week.

Trip up to Lee’s then or a bit of DIY? not going to Coppid Beech on Sunday then ?

  8. Nick's a nice guy - very knowledgeable, came to the first ever AV8 meet a couple of years ago and the last one that we had - bumped into him and his young lad at Prescott a couple of weeks ago and he's joining about a dozen of us for breakfast at Sally Pussey's on 26th June - but don't know what went wrong a few months back - he has more than one string to his bow though, and now giving newbies to Boxster's 1 to 1 tuition at his place on how to service / give their Boxster basic maintenance / look after their Boxster themselves.

Agreed an insurance valuation for mine that has now been written off following a shunt last Wednesday morning. 😢

Only consolation is that the market remains strong and I made a decent enough return on my “investment”

Oh no! Was daughter in the car with you and are you ok ? Weren’t you going to drive it to a wedding in Italy soon?

  10. Cracking looking car and you made the right choice with the 981 ( my fav) Mr997 ( has a 2010 gen 2 ) still has the hump over having to spend out nearly £500 on a rear light casing yesterday ( after 10%PCGB discount) - fab colour too 😊👍

13 straight days of work and a couple of beers last night.

plan is to uncover the car and drive all weekend. All chores, errands and whataboutry shall be Porsche #weekend

Might be at R19 Donnington Grove meet on Sunday Kam ( got to pay John for my Shere Hill Climb ticket ) 😊

  12. I insure with A plan  ( see Carly on the A Plan thread on here ) -  for about £50 you can get a total loss plus protection policy, which in the event of the car being written off will pay out an additional 25% of the claim on top - pretty sure A plan give you current open  market rate rather than book value as well - I also increased the insurance cover by £3k to reflect how the prices are at the current level and it didn't cost me anymore - every 6 months I have a scout around what's for sale for my age of car and then print them out to keep just in case - then I have several decent examples of what my car would be worth to back me up if the worst was to happen. I even take out the total loss plus on my daily - an extra 25% makes a heck of a difference.

Are you sure it’s covid & nothing to do with not wanting to admit neglect to us as you’re driving a certain 997 more😂

Have to admit I do like driving the 997 - but it’s a totally different beast and gives you a totally different type of excitement when driving - lack of miles is purely down to not having meets to take it to that are out doors - sitting inside in cramped cafe’s isn’t an option because of Mr997’s health conditions - I get invited to plenty of meets, but they all want to squeeze into small pubs or busy cafes - roll on spring as am off to do a hill climb at Prescot and will be able to do Blackbushe again 😊

I got the car there this morning after leaving at 06:30 to avoid rush hour traffic. A couple of brown trouser moments, where she hesitated in traffic, but i nursed her along the least busy roads all the way to Lee.

A couple of hours to investigate, he found error P0102 - Hot film MAF sensor. The MAF itself is not the original Bosch part and a Bremi (as the previous owner stated) and Lee's boys stated that Bremi is not their preferred brand. The checked the Bremi part and found it working fine. On visual inspection inside the engine bay they found intake hose after MAF loose clip corroded. This was replaced and I was off home.

The car performed perfectly all the way home - not a single hesitation and perfect idle in traffic. @CAZ - Lee and Lyndsay say hi and @the baron Lee says he looks forward to seeing you later.

I am using viola over the next couple of weeks - Look at the state of her:

  15. Spoke to Colin the owner today - professional photographer has posted the stick with the pictures on out to him - so when he gets it he will send the pictures on to me - @the baron wanted a pic of himself draped seductively over the bonnet of his 996, but went all shy when he realized he had left his nipple tassels at home - and he didn't have time to ask  @John K if he could borrow his.
