  1. Strangely TFL have  written to me twice now to tell me that my Van isn’t exempt from the congestion charge , this is despite me living over 100 miles away and the vehicle never travelling anywhere near London, seriously considering reporting tfl to ico for data breach as no reason why they have requested information from the dvla

  2. Advice.... Book it in a garage all day long.

Doing it yourself , theres bound to be tools you'd need to buy, oils consumables etc  and

2nd Hand you do not know

    A. If its correct for the car

    B. Condition

Go to a garage and let them supply the parts, Most garages will either refuse to fit your parts or not offer any warranty at all, bearing in mind this isnt a 2 minute job if it fails a few months down the line

My current company daily doesn't even come with a book.  You can get the service info from SEAT, but what about when it leaves the dealer network to indy garages?

95% of all Vm's are like that now  but Most Decent independent garages will be able to update the records at the manucturers  but it is a long winded job to set up .

The garage has to register with each VM and usually provide a copy of passport , vat reg no and limited company info( if your not vat registered or LTD then you cant get access) once you've registered  which again can take 24 hours with ford or 3 weeks with BMW ,than you can update the records at each service. But a lot of garages cant be bothered and just issue an invoice and that's it

So even porsche allow Indies to update the Porsche Central Service System

On the 1st December 2022 my car became 26 years old.  It wasn't until a facebook post and a chat with a car journalist from the 90s that I started realising how early my car is.  It was in fact registered in the UK before both the press cars used for Autocar, Top Gear Mag etc.  Going by the chassis of 1129 it was actually built after P159 EGM (press car and BoXa members car).  But why registered before?

The chassis numbers for the european cars from 01.08.1996  are  98-VS600061 >98-VS610000 so potentially 1068 before yours... But certainly an early one

Tbh I don't just think it's Porsche dealers who can be poor. I had terrible experiences with a few parts depts over the years. Some of them are complete cretins. As the old saying goes...you pay peanuts you employ monkeys.

I work for a motor factor and we have to deal with main dealer parts departments on a daily basis, yes the standard of knowledge has dwindled over the years to the level that we subscribe to a website called partslink24 and get the oe part number before we ring the dealer- In effect we are doing there job for them, but the issue lies with a chronic shortage of parts advisors across both dealers and motor factors and its mainly down to wages....a typical factor and a dealer parts department employ's advisors and drivers, Go back say 6 years , a van driver would be on minimum wage 16k a year and a parts advisor on say 22k a year, with the increases in the minimum wage drivers wages are now 21k a year but the advisors wages are only around 23k a year ( some of my local dealers are advertising at 21k !!) , then take into account most van drivers take a van home and have no costs in relation to it, yet advisors have to pay there own travel expenses , it doesnt take much working out to see why advisors are leaving the trade

It’s quite involved to be honest.

It helped that my seats are already out .

Remove side trims that cover the front hoop stays. The passenger side cover has a connector at the bottom for the micro switch . Make sure you disconnect it before removing completely.

Disconnect seat belts , put hood in service mode , remove carpet etc from top of engine lid.

Remove the hood completely then -

VERY CAREFULLY ease the drip tray away from the rear stays of the hoop.Ease out the foam at the base of the rear and it’s 2 13mm nuts each side. Then 2 13mm nuts on the front base .

It will be easier to have a helper to allow easier removal and refitting of the hood and hoops.

    Have fun.

Thanks for the info but I Dont really fancy removing the hood, so may sell them on instead

Just removed the hood and roll hoops .

Planning on getting the roll hoops painted at the same time as the seat backs.

I need to remove the hoops on mine at some point as Ive a silver set in garage waiting to be fitted... Any advice on how to remove and refit

  8. Do e-scooters use the same laws as e-bikes ?

    as lime-uk.co.uk says

    • "Enforcing driving licence requirements using our GDPR compliant two factor licence authentication technology."

and Tfl says to hire a e-scooter you must be over 18 and have a driving license

On a slightly different note, reading an article about the storms last week , if a tree falls from someone's garden and damages your car, you have to claim off your own car insurance and not the householders buildings insurance

Mildly miffed today.  Local OPC (Silverstone) asked me for pre-payment for a small parts order, just under £160 so not a massive amount.  First time since the first order I placed with them over 3 years ago.  It was a different chap from usual that replied to my enquiry though.

Parts ordered are the rear plastic under tray, supports and a few screws/nuts for fitting it.

Leicester Opc have always done it to me, even though we have a trade account at work with them, we are finding more and more dealers will now only order parts in once payment has been made

  10. Are both policies in your name and with you as the main driver ? then having your wife "marked " as having an accident may not effect the policies too much in the future, also the insurance will not tell you how future premiums will be affected as they cannot look into the future as premiums are based on risk ,  things like moving jobs, if crime rates in your area increase it may affect the premium

Normally I wouldn't but if in 6mths the backside drops out of the current market I'm left with an insurance value of (maybe) 50% of what I paid with a loan still outstanding.

Looks like I'll investigate the 'agreed value' options

But if the backside drops out then your replacement will be cheaper , the whole concept of insurance is you should be able to buy a replacement car in same condition, with same miles and same age as the car written off with the payout

  12. Either wasted a few pennies or got a bargain... Noticed a few gt3 front brake ducts on ebay , which apparently aids cooling for  the brake discs, seem to be listed for anything up to £60, Genuine are around £50 a set  had a quick look on design911 and there less than a tenner a set   , got to be a pricing error , but the've been dispatched and due tomorrow, research shows they fit 986 & 987 boxsters

Possible to add 2011 987.2 Black Edition (if it goes to that level of detail on model numbers) please?

Else 2011 987S 3.4 if this is the only option?

    Thanks!
