Replaced the rear discs and pads plus new wear sensors, with new fitting kit. All went well until the road test. Five miles in and the pad wear warning light came on. FML. I guess it is going back on jacks again…..
(it would help if I knew which corner the warning was coming from!!)

I’m looking at an upgrade (986 with non-fibre optic Bose). How easy was the wiring installation using their harness adaptor? Were there any extras to do?

Trying to find the creak/groan in the steering. Looks like I might need to Jack her up!

Has the levelling sensor failed or is it just that the push rod assembly has seized/broken, which is more common.
Parts form an OPC usually work out with discount and VAT at about the price D911 list on the website without VAT or delivery... After all the are buying them from Porsche (albeit at a slightly better discount most likely) and then shipping them to you.
Example from this week. rear plastic under tray 986 504 119 00, from Porsche directly with discount £95.27 excl. VAT (£114.32 incl VAT), D911 list it at £126.56 excl. VAT and add £9.99+VAT delivery - Total £163.86 by the time it gets to you. That is one heck of a premium unless you live miles from a Porsche parts department.
It may well be the arm actually. I assumed that the sensor would prevent the arm moving.
my nearest OPC is Exeter I think (40 miles away) or Bournemouth (a little farther).

Morning team,
Has anyone replaced the levelling sensor(s) for their litronic headlights? Design 911 have two on their site, one original Porsche part (£106) and one aftermarket made by AIC (£63). Just wondering if there would be any difference in quality etc.
Thansk.

I had a long and detailed phone call from Nick but received no written report. I contacted him and he said he sent it but nothing was received. This was last year.

So a weird thing happens this morning. Jumped in the 986 Tip, pulled off the drive and stopped on the road to let a car through. I looked down and the car had stalled (all warning lights along the bottom illuminated). I tried to restart and nothing (no turn over or anything). Rolled backwards to the kerb and waited for a minute before successfully restarting again at the first attempt. Drove the 8 miles to work with no problems, and also the return journey. Any ideas? It had a new battery this year (Bosch S5) and has been fairly regularly driven since. 🤷♂️

If you haven’t looked at the car and just going by the m.o.t it’s also quite common for them to leak from the spark plug tubes. So only an inspection will tell
Get Nick Giles to do a PPI on it. Worth its weight.

Edit to above. Advisories were from the service, the MOT had no advisories apparently!

The MOT today picked up my headlight level link as being stiff. I’d be interested in your prices/where you source them. Hopefully the sensor box just needs a good clean and exercise!

12,000 mile service and MOT. Few advisories:
Rear Discs low; headlamp washer nozzle broken (expensive apparently) ; litronic leveller link stiff (?); o/s control arm end debonding.
Common sense would suggest the sensor is stiff on the headlight leveller, so it might just need a good clean. Jobs for the weekend/winter!

New rear tyres fitted to replace the 12 year old items. Feels like a new car on the back end.

It has been piddling down for several days so I’ve been out to check the carpets!

I sent an email to Porsche in Bournemouth and got roundly ignored. I’ll be trying Exeter next to see if they’re more professional.

Went for a drive, came back and whilst parking up I heard some creaking when moving the steering wheel (both ways). Some investigation needed.

Nice job, how much of you don’t mind me asking?
Me, I took the long haired admiral (she’s actually got short hair, but you get the point!) for a drive to the pub for a nice outdoor pint.

New pair of front tyres added and a snow foam wash and ceramic wax. New rears next month #notabaron.

I too have a random box in my frunk adjacent to the battery with what looks like a small plastic FM antenna and a GPS antenna nearby. Debating whether to rip it out (according to the gumpf that can with the car it might be an RAC Trackstar).

What tyres
in 986
Cheers guys. The front two were advisories on last year’s MOT so it made sense to get them changed. Looking at getting the rears done in a couple of months; there’s plenty of tread but Nick Giles noted on the PPI that they were old in years. Probably go for the same (PS4s) on the back.

What tyres
in 986
I have ordered two Michelin PS4 for the front of my 2002 Boxster. Black circles have emailed me telling me these aren’t N-rated tyres. Should I be concerned? It’s not like my car has a warranty to void any more!

I SAID, DID IT WORK THIS TIME?
WHAT? EH? SPEAK UP! YES NO ALARM THIS TIME.

Just tried it. Battery isn’t flat but as soon as I disconnected the battery negative terminal the alarm went off. So I put it to position one and am trying again!

Battery Update.
Fitted the new one. Despite turning the key to position 1, when I removed the negative terminal from the battery, the alarm sounded. Bloody hell, thats loud !
In went the new one, half expecting the alarm to go off again (it didnt), frunk light came on, so all good
Is it necessary to turn the ignition to position one? 101 projects doesn’t mention this, nor does the Pelican website or the manual.
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

My code reader did not. It’s not a CEL fault so probably not possible.
Turns out I could unplug the wear sensor without jacking the car. Turns out the first one I con-checked (one “new” one I fitted yesterday) was open circuit. Fortunately I kept both old ones (neither have worn) so fitted one and job done. 👍🏼
