You don't state the year in your My Ride on the profile, but as you say Boxster S, BERU ZS178 are the ones.

Its a 2001 x reg. Thanks. Will try and update my ride. Not very good with internet things!!

Rough running - coil packs mentioned above, partially blocked fuel filter?  What year is the car as from '02 models onwards the filter is part of the sender/pick up in the tank, prior to that it is an in-line filter under the car which would be more susceptible to blocking.  Other possible causes - sticky Variocam solenoid, MAF sensor, blocked tank vent to name a few.

Just seen boxersum thread down page few posts. Must have scrolled past it!!! Are these the right coil packs for my car 2001 boxster S.

I'd check the front roof seal and treat it with Gummi Pfledge.

I didn't have a cover on my 987.1 for 2 years and never had any condensation.

Thanks and will do. Think seen gummi pfledge in halfords. Heard people talk about it on here before.

Damp how (if no water is getting in) and where ?

Little bit on roof liner and on rear plastic window. No visible cracks that i can see. On roof can sometimes feel damp on extremely wet and cold days. First time in over 3 years seen a little bit of mould. Will look in halfords and find something. Will get another fitted 986 cover!!!

  5. Just to add more info. Car is 2001 x reg boxster S. There is no water in car and all drains clear. Little bit of condensation on top roof where it closes near sun visors. Part of problem is using cheap 20 quid car cover when my old fitted one broke. Was asking for recommendations for an off the shelf cleaner rather than order on line and wait.

Can only talk to my own experience, my first Boxster had 14 year old seals when we parted ways and I had no issues keeping that car dry.

If the OP hasn't checked their drains and lifted the carpet up behind the seats I'd suggest they start there along with checking the roof/door card seals.

Drains all clear and no water in car!!! Just with all the rain can be bit damp inside. First time i seen mould BUT i did have proper 986 fitted cover on car for last 3 years but that broke at end of summer and have replaced with cheap 20 quid one from screwfix so guessing this is part of problem. Main question was for an off the shelf quick cleaning solution that anyone has used.

Soooo @Shippers01 with rough running are you driving the car for 10 minutes or just leaving it to idle . . . I assume your driving it . . . but it's not exactly clear from your post.

Bit of both. Not really been anywhere in it since October so few 5 or 10 min drive around block then sometimes letting it idle for 20 to 30 mins.

  9. Hi all hope everone had a nice xmas and new year. O.k. issue no 1: car been sat for few weeks and has got little bit mouldy. Wiped with cloth. What is good cleaning stuff that i can use on all interior including leather seats and also roof liner. Anything from halfords that i can go and get quickly and start cleaning!! Issue no 2: car starts up and runs fine then after about 10 mins starts to idle rough and feels like it wants to stall. Makes like chug-chug as though hunting for fuel. Have not used car since end October. I do need new coil packs and plugs so will try and get them at weekend but any ideas much appreciated!!!

Also the siren itself has a battery - which charges from the main battery.  When that degrades it constantly tries to charge itself , causing a drain on the main battery until it goes low enough to trigger the siren.

aome folks just unplug the siren (which can lead to the alarm double beeping when you arm it)

a PIWIS diagnostic tool can read back what caused the last few alarm activations if you have can get it to someone / an Indy with the right kit.

Unaware siren had separate battery!! How do you unplg it and where is it??? Is it in the frunk???

Low battery or wet alarm module.

Battery go BoschS S4 or S5, or Yuasa 5000 and switch to a 110 from a 096 (to get higher cold crank amps) seem to be the common trends on here. CP4L have a holiday discount code or Tayna Batteries have a good rep for price and delivery.

Did check passenger seat last night and all seemed dry. Battery is only a year old but not branded one think its a lion??? Will have good look later as out at moment.

Is it nice and dry underneath the passenger seat?

Seemed nice and dry when i checked last night. Will double check when i am back home later.

Low voltage on the car battery can cause this. Thing is, low voltage does not necessarily mean the car won't start - it still would. Anything below 12v can send the electrics haywire. If you have a multimeter, check the battery voltage. In the meantime, you should be be able to lock the car with the key only.

Car started first time. Will check voltage in morning. Car has not really been driven much in last few weeks.

  14. Evening all. Just had my alarm going off twice in last hour or so. Checked frunk and boot lid all shut and checked arm rest locked up as well. Would low battery in key fob set of alarm? Have left car unlocked at moment. Any ideas?? Ta.

Bosch, Yuassa and Varta seem to be the most commonly used ones noted on here.  Look for a good CCA number an you can fir both 096 and 110 type batteries as the base clamp that holds it down has adjustable positions.

What is cca number?? And was is good number. Sorry if sounding silly!!!

I'm sensing from you description and the fact we've got cold damp weather that the battery has had it.  Key to first position and then disconnect battery, if you don't you get an ear full of very loud alarm siren...  but then we shouldn't really tell you that as it is a 986 owner's rite of passage.

Yep think that is the case. Battery broken!!!! Thanks for heads up about siren!!! With key in position 1 is that for changing the battery or can i take battery out and leave key in position 1 or turn off and charge battery for few then reconnect it?? Try and charge first to double check it!!

  17. Got my friend to check battery and looks like its not holding charge. Will try and give it charge but if no joy will get new battety. Can you charge battery without taking it out??? Currently got a halfords battery on it at the moment so any other recommendations greatly recieved!!

  18. Thanks. Last week i had to jump start it as would not quite turn over. Been using it every day since and been fine. Did not take it out yesterday. Would not start this morning so jumped no problem but after driving about for 20 mins now will not start!!!! Hoping just battery may be knackered!!

They do take a fair time to cool down, a lot of metal, a lot of oil and a lot of water, but 5 hours seem a lot, but the again with cooler autumn air may have just been more noticeable.

Yep may just be cool autum air. Just never noticed before. Will keep check on it and check coolant level over weekend. Thought i would ask in case there was any known issues.
