Quick update. So got back in car fired it up and the clamshell has now fully closed BUT still showing open on dashboard. Tried to open roof but clamshell struggling to open but appears to open on drivers side a tiny bit but not on passenger side. Any help much appreciated.

Hi. Just got home and went to put roof up and it went up very slowly but has shut, BUT the clamshell has not fully closed. It is approx 6 inches open!!! Any ideas or help much appreciated!!!!!

Yes @TROOPER88is correct, mine doesn’t have door airbags so you will need to disconnect the battery.

I think Baron has an early 986 with no airbag in the door, you most likely do and therefore you need to. When working on any car electrical system, it is best practice to always disconnect the battery.

As I suggested in one of my initial replies to you, the car needs to be read on the diagnostics tbh.

If you do tackle this on your own, first remove the door card and remove the plug to the module to see if you have the 7 or 9 pin.

Thanks for the heads up. Mine is 2001 boxster s with door airbags. Will see if i can get it read with diagnostics first if anyone local has one. Will put shout out. Sure i will ask few more question before i do it!!

Thanks the baron. I was leaning towards the module as all seems dry in car although will double check when weather calms down!!! When you changed yours is it simply a case of just plugging new module in?? Do you have to take battery off and then reset anything??? Is fairly easy getting door card off etc??

My friend had a similar problem with the alarm randomly going off and the odd strange thing with windows. It got worse and worse, to the point of going to the car in the morning and it had completely put the windows down, some lights on the dash were on and it drained a fully charged battery in a day without even starting it. His carpet felt dry, but as others have said the foam underneath was full of water. His was a 996, but the front ends are almost identical to our cars. His problem was blocked drains, a leaking passenger door seal and membrane.

Unfortunately these things are hard to spot until things start going wrong. I believe replacement Alarm units are around £400 (certainly for my friend's 996 it was around that price) fitted and coded to the ECU, so well worth trying to recover it. This may not be your problem, but does sound suspiciously like a wet Alarm unit. 

This is the first time the alarm has gone off since i got the car last summer!! When the alarm went off i pushed keyfob button to stop and then re-locked car. Then went out hour or so later to pick up my son and noticed that interior light was on after starting car so checked doors were shut BUT the passenger door not shut fully. Thats when i tried to open and close door properly and thats when it started playing up!! The passenger door must not have been shut properly from earlier on. Like i said window drops fine when opening the roof.

Thanks for offer but i have full cover and it is covered!!!! Horrible rain and wind!! Did check carpet earlier and felt dry. Will have another look in morning. Seems odd just started today. As said above window works fine with the roof.

If you go down the door lock module replacement route then use the appropriate VW / Audi unit (IIRC Golf or TT) as its a fraction of the price of the near identical one from Porsche.

Thanks for the info. Will double check carpet and foam and under seat in morning. Never had any problems with windows untill today!!

If it is the door lock module is that an expensive fix??? Is it a diy fix??

As above carpets all seem dry but will try and double check later if stops raining!! Out of curiosity if it is wet what do you do??? Pretty sure it is dry though.

Hi trooper88. Have checked carpets but all dry. Car is kept covered when not in use. 

Hi all. So out in car today and passenger window not dropping on exit or entry. Also when driving along the window starts to drop and goes back up again as driving and interior light comes on and off!!! The windows drops as they should when you open the roof. Is it the switch in the door that would cause this?? Any advice helpfull. This has only just happened today as earlier the alarm went off as well!!! Not sure if both connected?

I used standard red hammerite metal paint in a tin from a local motor factors, painted on with a small-ish paint brush and with the disc covered and pads removed. I didn't want to completely remove the calipers so figured paint-on might be easier, and red overspray would be a bit obvious 😮 . I would probably look for a higher temperature compatible paint as suggested wisely below, remember my solution is untested as yet. Paint-on won't leave you with perfectly smooth finish either, but depends how fussy you are about the job.

The clear lacquer I used (fairly standard spray-on stuff) really didn't like the hammerite paint at all and caused it to shrivel up. The lacquer does make the fairly boring hammerite paint pop though, but nice light coats recommended (or perhaps slightly more research than I did 😄 )

One of the caliper refurbishers sells a paint kit of their paint 2 part paint if you want to get the most appropriate paint for the job.

Hi kay pee. What was the hammerite that you used. Was it just red spray can?? Also can you tell me where you got stickers or post link. Also did you do this with calipers on car??  Need to do mine as they have faded badly!!
