i paid £380 to my local Porsche indie to do the same job.

Do the LED bulbs cause any canbus errors on the 987 or could cause heat damage to the light covers?
-
Tried Night breakers for 4 weeks once. That’s the total time they worked for before they were both blown!

The only downfall with the SS ones is that they dont quite follow the contour of the sill and will leave a slight gap in the step curvature. I will be adding a very thin bead of clear silicone sealant around mine just to prevent any water ingress getting trapped.

The glue is nuclear strength. Absolute nightmare to remove. Definitely get them very warm. I bought stainless steel sill covers with Boxster script. I got them off another owner so not sure of their origin

Fitted some dynamic LED side indicators. £25 off Aliexpress, smoked black with 3 bands of orange dynamic LED's. Replaced the clear, OEM style fitted.
Easy install with no canbus errors. Took 10 minutes.

Just ordered a set for mine.
Any hints or tips for installation? Seen the YouTube videos & seem pretty straightforward…
Dead easy and straight forward to disassemble and replace. Just make sure the plastic pins go back in the right way (front to back i think). Otherwise the switches wont spring return. Its an easy mistake to make, so just test them before you put it all back together.

I bought a 2005 2.7 Boxster back in May 2021, with 53k on the clock-has been CAT;C and no history. Paid £9.5k
I sought a servicing/dealer book-pack set off ebay for £75
£20 for a replacement service/maintenance book from Porsche.
I've retraced 6 previous Porsche servicings and now have a good (not perfect) service history.
I had the car major serviced at a cost of £360 from a local indie.
The car needs front shocks and a couple of other things. With parts and fitting, it will come to about £1100 when all done.
£27 for a plastic ball joint for the roof control arm. I replaced this myself
£30 for new climate control switches. I replaced these myself.
Add to that personal choices such as a re-map, side decals, roof protection, seat conditioning kit, stereo upgrade, zunsport grills, paint repair for bumper scuff, in total about £500.
So, in approximately 6 months ive probably put about 2 grand into the car. But a lot of that was piece of mind for my new ownership. I dont envisage any more spend for the foreseeable future.
The car is weekends only. It does need the AC doing but im in no rush. I'll just put the roof down.
IN YOUR FACE CAYMAN OWNERS!!!! 🙂

Fitted a new plastic ball joint end for the roof control arm. Easy job and only took 30 mins. Cost £27 for a pair so always got a spare in the glove box .

Fitted a rear view camera that i bought off Aliexpress. Its part of an LED number plate light.
Easy plug n play removal and install. I put the roof in the service position, removed the rear light (passenger side) and found a hole in the corner where i could fish the cables through. I used a long garden plant stick to thread through the light aperture and out of the LH side number plate light hole. Then taped the cable to the stick and pulled it through. Really easy. Then found a way under the weather sealing panels around the roof storage area and tucked the cable under this, then out though the back carpet panel behind the seat, close to the passenger seatbelt attachment point. Then down to the middle of the car and tucked the cable under the centre tunnel console.
Ive got an ICE expert completing the connecting part on Friday as im scared of electrics and he has the keys to remove the stereo.
I hope it works after all this!!!
Camera now fully connected and it works a treat . Good image quality. The ICE guy did say that some of the cheap Chinese cameras would be very unstable and the image would roll on the screen, due to interference from the alternator, but mine is fine. £11 we’ll spent.
I also sent my new replacement service book away to PC Silverstone to get the first service stamped (2007). When it comes back, I’ll be sending it to PC Bournemouth and then PC Cambridge. I’ve traced 6 servicings in all which is great as I bought the car with no history.
Lastly I’ve bought a pair of Zunsport front grills. The condensers are kaput anyway but I’ll get round to them eventually.

I think a set of these will be the next purchase for me. What are the Aliexpress ones like in terms of quality?
Also, I tend not to buy from abroad, any hidden costs?
Cheers
Free shipping but maybe a couple of quid tax(?) to add on. Quality is good with a harder, plastic feel , and not the rubbery coating that will go sticky. They look spot on when fitted.

£30 off Aliexpress
Work perfectly.

What happens to chips and scuffs? Ive thought of doing this but i have a couple of teeny tiny stone chips on the bonnet, some scuffs on the door sills, and a bit of paint rash around both side vents. Is it worth ceramic coating if the paint isnt perfect?
-
Ive been looking at the side decals in dark blue, as my roof is blue. I think black would look wrong, although i have painted the side vents black!
Can i ask Medic-One, did you buy from designstuffonline? And did you get the single colour Typeface (extra) decals? Do they finish as a curved sticker at the back of the door, or do you just cut them to suit? The sticers shown go all the way to the rear wheel arch.

Ive just boxed up a Kenwood DMX7071DABS for sale. Just needs the harness kit (with facia), and DAB aerial .PM me if interested.

Where did you get the sill protectors from?
I bought them off a guy locally who had orignally bought them for his car but then changed his mind. I think he orignally paid about £75 for them but not sure where from. My only issue is the gaps around the edges as they dont sit flush so i fear water ingress could get trapped inbetween.

Much better black. Good job.

I actually like the look of those tints, although may well look different in the flesh so to speak
On the screen the tint looks quite subtle. Certainly not the full on blacked out look I went for about 20 years ago 🤣
I’ve took them off. They were fly eye mesh so not a full tint , but they just didn’t suit the car. If it was black wheels, black roof then yea they would have looked good, but too boy racer for my taste.

Ive been a busy little boy today, and over the past week.
Original CDR24 removed and new DD Kenwood fitted. Also added a DAB/FM transmitter, tucked away with a little remote control stuck to the dash; as the DD unit is a very basic one i found in the loft, I tend to listen more to the tunes off my Apple play, through USB.
Also replaced the fan switches as they had gone gummy.
Removed sill protectors and fitted polished metal ones. Old ones were a pig to get off. Porsche use the strongest glue EVERRR!!
Tinted rear lights with fly-eye mesh but i dont like it. Looks too chavvy and Boy racer. Im removing it tomorrow.

But in these times I can openly boast about my affection for all things pink and if I want to identify as a unicorn I shall. Let’s all go out for Pornstar Martini’s daaaarlings! 😍

The missus Red Mazda was parked next to it.
Buying an Import? Should i be worried??

Update 2 years later after purchasing the car which is UK and had minor Cat C damage. I retraced 9 MOT's and servicings through the Porsche network and bought a new Porsche folder pack and service book. I sent the book away to all of the OPC and rebuilt the service history and it has been maintained by my local specialist Porsche indy ever since.
It has required 2 new shocks due to leaking and new AC condensers, which are common i believe. The car has been faultless and has been a pleasure to own and drive ever since i bought it. Ive done a few custom bits to personalise it to my own liking. New SS exhaust and decals on the outside. Other than that, its been awesome. I do have an itch for a 997 but that will have to wait. Im keeping the Boxster for the foreseeable future.
