I am going with a 986MAF. I’ve just picked up the AOS and the original AOS is already removed. Hopefully will get back on it tomorrow.

Are you referring to the actual MAF or MAF tube/holder?

Having got the free flowing stainless swept manifolds, sports cat's and exhaust system fitted already.
I have a 987 airbox on the shelf to fit.
At this point, I suppose, I should go down the route of 987 manifolds, larger throttle body, Tee piece, and associated pipework.

In theory that would give me the most possible power without disturbing the engine itself.?

Did someone on this thread say they had some of these parts hanging around? If so, do they want to move it on?

My one concern would be if these upgrades just gave you a peak power output at the very top end but didn’t particularly do anything to the mid range torque.

Strangely after driving my 986 and 987 back to back, the 986 is definitely lacking in mid range torque although it fair sings at the top end! The most noticeable torque area is round the 2KRPM, which makes gentle, cruising around easy, the 987 (RS60) has that torque continuing, fairly linear like through the whole rev range.

    Hi @phazed

I have a brand new 74mm tb and a brand new with gasket 996 T/plenum to suit if you are interested. I also have various pipe work and a modified 987 airbox with maf holder and maf.

    let me know if interested.

  3. My tilt sensor module (under passenger seat) was unplugged when I got it. I presume there maybe some issue with it so have not plugged it back in. Being unplugged does not seem to affect any other functions so maybe that is an option for you?

Maybe the previous owner of my car went on a lot of ferries?

  4. I had a Hayward and Scott exhaust fitted to Accord Type R what must be 20 years ago. That makes feel old!

Their service then was superb and their product and workmanship was excellent. Really pleased to hear they are still going and giving great service.

    Great choice.

  5. I have a Topgear back box on mine. Pretty much the same as the Toyosport but with the added skid plate grill things which look quite good.

Not too drony and sounds good combined with the 200cell cats. Quite loud but doesn’t me as I’m quite deaf!

Has anyone with a leaky OEM back box had the seams welded up to get it through a Mot?

Not on my Boxster but I have had it done on another car. It will get you through if done well but it is only a temporary fix as if it is bad enough to cause a localised leak you can be sure it will fail in another location soon enough. I think I got just over twelve months out of my repair so was alright (just) for next MOT but failed soon after.

Also depends on how bad it is as you cannot weld rust!

Chasing an improved driving experience isn't a waste of time though, that can be achieved and for a relatively small outlay.

and for the enjoyment of us car fiddling fanatics!

It’s interesting that many people disliked the later turbo engined boxsters🧐

I’ve never driven a 718 turbo Boxster but I know in general I prefer a n/a car. All the favourite cars I have owned have been n/a.

Turbos can give massive power but there is nothing like ringing out a great high revving n/a car and enjoying the increasing crescendo of noise as the revs rise to a peak.

The dislike for the 718 turbo boxster I think is as much to do with having four cylinders as opposed to six?

My Dyno showed a gain but the link in my threads are dead now.

@edc Do you still have the Dyno plots and can you re post them?

Or can you remember the detail of what the actual gain was and where it was in the rev range?
    Cheers

  10. I’m still not sure about the 74mm and 996/7 plenum.

I still have not seen a before and after Dyno showing an improvement. The only evidence I have is from Wayne at chip wizards who says don’t bother, Marty Wild thread that says “no gain” and an engine builder/tuner who did the maths and said maybe small gain in hp (2-5) and loss in torque below 5k due to air flow velocity slowing down.

    Still pondering.

no idea what page it's on - I did loads to her.

    Hi @Patt

I have read through all 11 pages and although there is reference to a larger tb and plenum I could not find any description of the work or dyno graphs other than a note that power had gone from 202 to 254, which makes me think maybe there was a problem that was then resolved.

No notes about increased power due to mod though?

    Maybe in another thread?

throttle body added bhp and torques over the whole rev range on my old 986 (AKA Molly on the owners thread).  It literally woke up the throttle response from "wait for it" to ALIVE.

I did lose 1-2 mpg, but a must mod for me as it was cheap and I didn't do a re-map.

Plots should be in the Molly thread, the how to is in EDC's thread as we fitted his first.

    Hi @Patt

Can you point me in the right direction of the Molly thread please. I have searched Molly with no luck and cannot find an owners thread? Cheers
