Warranty and Finance question (main dealerships)

Hi all,

Does anyone know, what the warranty covers when buying a used car from a dealership? Specifically, does anyone know what it doesn't cover?!

I'm after trouble-free motoring, and my car is a pain in the a.ss at the moment, so considering buying something else from a main dealership with warranty.

Equally, can a used car be financed using their Hire-Purchase type finance? (the one where you have a final lump sum or give the car back).

I know I could get this info from a dealership, but all the salesmen I have dealt with briefly in the past have been terrifically slimey and very 'higher-than-thou' attidude which I can't stand. I'd rather do my homework first before I go in (if I do!).
