Insuring 5 vehicles on one policy

Recommended Posts

I've been insuring everything I own on one policy for several years now with the same company. I've got 3 cars, my company van and my other half's car on the policy, and so far I've been happy with the service and cost. It seems insurance is generally getting more expensive now, so I'm wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation that can recommend an insurer to compare mine with. I've been warned to expect about a 10% increase this time round. The policy covers a much modified Jap import Evo8, a 30 year old MR2, the Boxster, an old  '04 plate Lexus sportcross and my '59 plate Ford Connect, which is by far the newest thing I own. I'm currently paying about £1600 for that lot, which is ok, but it's already risen by £100 after moving from Southampton to Newcastle. Starting to think just continually ticking the renewal box might be a bit short-sighted.

Agree with Haggis, most of those would be better off on specialist policies with limited mileage. The cheaper polices have restrictions such as garaging or no commuting, so that may limit you. It's just a bit of hassle dealing with 5 different companies, but doesn't need to be too bad. My classic policy on my spitfire seems to hover around £100, so I just leave it with that insurer. My 107 is the main car, so just do a comparison each year and tell my current insurer to match it, which they invariably do. Takes 5 minutes and cost £163.86 this yearB). Boxster is the expensive one at £350, but does come with extras.

Definitely worth investigating.

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look around.

Hi Moneypit,

You're welcome to give us a call and we can take a look at all the vehicles, as a broker we have the facilities to look at a multi-policy similar to the one you have or look at separating the vehicles as sometimes it can work out lower cost to have for example 3 with one insurer and 2 with another etc. But we'd look into what would be most financially beneficial for yourself.

The number to call is 0333 207 6597 or if you PM me your name and contact number we can call you if you'd prefer.

Mention the forum to get a discount as we are your forum sponsor! ...& all quotes for March get an entry into our prize draw for a £100 Restaurant Choice Giftcard.

Thanks

First post!

I've just bought a Boxster S. I also have a BMW 130i as a daily car, and a 306 GTI-6 as a project car (restoring).

I'm in the middle of organising insurance. Footman James are my current favourite insurers. They're coming in at £475 fully comp for all three vehicles, including commuting, unlimited mileage and for myself and my wife to drive.

They also look after my collection of motorbikes and have been excellent with those so far.

Hi, thanks for that and welcome. I just spoke to Cherished vehicle insurance who posted before you. They've come back with a very competitive quote ( £1440 ) for all 5, which, given the nature of the Evo, and the fact that the van has to be covered for business use, seems good to me. Also only £200 xs on each vehicle. Just for the record, I paid £1600 last year, with a £750 xs on the Evo alone, and have been warned to expect a 10% rise with the same company this year. It's a shame in a way, I've been at the same place for more than a decade, maybe we were both getting complacent with each other.
