M12MTR
Hi. Anyone have any information (good or bad) regarding independent servicing at Tom Ferguson Porsche in Felling Gateshead (Newcastle)? Looking at having a service done there. Thanks.
simon45089
I used them years ago on my 986. Not that cheap I seem to recall. I use DG Porsche in North Shields for my 987.2. They had a good reputation online when I researched them and I was very happy with them. They didnt push for extra work but were happy to advise. Simon. M12MTR
Thanks Simon. Tom Ferguson is £180 plus VAT for a minor service. D&G Porsche is £195 plus VAT for same. So not much in it. So would you recommend D&G?
simon45089
I would. I will be using them again.
Toeside
Have you asked at OPC what the cost is with some wiggle' ? I recently had tyres fitted at OPC they were only a little more expensive than Costco very surprisingly!
M12MTR
Yeah Angus.... they discounted to £370. At the age of my car now I think specialist independent servicing is appropriate. (I decided not to renew the OPC warranty also when it expired last summer). Any praise / experience of Tom Ferguson Porsche?
moneypit
Another one for D&G, they've had mine in for an oil change and a major, helpful and honest. I thought the RMS was on the way out a while ago, they nipped up one of the tensioners while it was in for the oil change and cured the leak for nowt. markSTI
Had a rattle from my exhaust, took it to Tom Ferguson. He said it was the left hand header. Had the header replaced and it turned out that this was incorrect. It was the rear cat on the silencer which I ended up finding that out myself on a mates car ramp. Cost me a lot of money and hassle because he wrongly diagnosed the issue. Also, he isn't big on customer service.
M12MTR
I've cancelled the service booking at Tom Ferguson and booked D & G Porsche for the next week. Cheers for all comments.
M12MTR
Service carried out today at D&G PORSCHE Newcastle. Great guys. No issues. All in a top job. Highly recommended. Good value too. He commented how 'clean' my Boxster is and that I should drive it more. Good advice!

myfirstboxster
I know plenty of local lads use Tom Ferguson and have nothing but praise for him , I use D+G and have found them to be good , so take your pick !
PaulQ
Even the best garages will get it wrong from time to time. It's how they deal with their mistakes which separates them. In my experience many will go to great lengths to cover up f@ck ups, rather then just putting their hands up and admitting they were wrong and sorting out the problem. simon45089
Hi Simon, I used D and G again last week for a minor service and was really pleased. They are two youngish guys who worked for the Porsche main dealer down the road and successfully set up on their own. There was no hard sell for extras, some advice on future things to keep an eye on, and some further good advice for me re my ambitions to change the car soon. I also live near Hexham and so will maybe see you around. Its a shame they now have all those cameras on the A69 now isn't it ! Thankfully none on the military road !!! All the best. Thanks for your comments, I will pay D&G a visit. This is the only Boxster that I have driven so I don't know how it compares. Drives well but would be good to get another opinion and assessment and it needs a service soon anyway. If you have been in Hexham in the last few months you may have seen it on the forecourt at Gilegate Motors (Subaru) on Corbridge Road. What colour/age is yours? simon45089
Hi Simon, I actually traded mine in on Thursday with a Porsche dealer. It was a 987 in white. They checked the car over and pointed out exactly what the guys at D and G had said needed doing, so another thumbs up for D and G being honest about the cars condition and not exaggerating . I am now the proud owner of a silver 911 (997.2) a bit of a childhood dream come true. I will give you a wave if I see you about locally !
SimonT001
Congrats on the 911! 987 are very tempting but must admit I bought this because it was throwaway money and was amazed at its condition and drive given its 17yrs and 124k miles. The previous owner sold it because he bought a silver 911 Cabrio - of the same age! Says the Boxster drives better/faster!
