I still have an OEM double DIN style nav unit (PCM 2) but the CD player isn't working anymore, so I'm not too worried about damage, but having used it, I think it's fine and isn't putting the CD drive into any stress. (The lips of this holder are deep enough that the weight of the phone is held by the chassis of the CD player anyway, rather than plastic) It means my phone is visible (I use it as sat nav now) if I need it to be and it's not supported by the vents (which I have found is never a good solution).
