ricof
A previous Indy had told me that the outer CV joint and boot cannot be replaced separately and instead, the whole driveshaft needs to be replaced? Is this correct? I have an MOT advisory stating the o/s outer CV boot is severely deteriorated. Thanks in advance.
Christopher2110
The boot can be done in situ. Did mine on my 986 S not too long ago. There’s plenty of people that say no it can’t because of the gearbox etc and a few that say it can! Can be a pain and takes a lot of wiggling and swearing but you’ll get there! T911UK
Only the inner joint can be changed, if the outer has gone its a new complete shaft (or though sometimes the internals of the joint can be replaced on some cars)
zcacogp
Coming late to this topic .... The metal flange on the outer CV boots on the 987 driveshafts seem to be in some way bonded on to the joint itself. This bond has come adrift on one of my CV's (nearside) and hence it is leaking grease. Has anyone had any success in repairing this sort of problem? It seems that CV boots don't come with this flange and whole driveshafts are stupidly expensive. Is it simply a matter of taking the driveshaft out and cleaning and re-bonding the flange into place? What sort of glue should I use? Does anyone have any tips for this?
