HVAC Control Panel - does it need coding?

On the way home from buying my new to me 981 the LCD display on the HVAC failed (mentioned it on my 'finally brought a car' thread.  Dealing is replacing it under warranty but as they have never had one fail before they don't know if it needs coding.  

Does anyone know?

I suspect it will need coding.  The layout of the centre console buttons is stored in the AC module.

You should read out the coding from the old module with a PIWIS tester and write it in to the new one.

Yes the new unit will need coding, it's simple enough but if you have sport chrono they will need to add the activation code for the option into the module.
