did a search and read the first 7 pages but couldnt see if anyone has done it. I installed carplay and have easy access to the camera connectors now,  hell wiring the camera cant be harder than the wires from the carplay unit.

seen some cameras on ali express which replaced one of the rear number plate lights as i dont want to drill the rear bumper

ok thanks,  i noticed the carplay has 12v power and the yellow camera connector, im assuming you just buy extending wire from the carplay unit and run that through the car.    is rear bumper off ive noticed some say it can be routed through the number plate light up and through the rear light

I’m interested in fitting one of these for my 987 as I’ve just put in a Joyeauto box.

The camera in the AliExpress link shows a wireless option, with and without 4 LEDs.

Does wireless mean no need to run a cable through the car? If so, I guess it must have some sort of transmitter at the Joyeauto/ head unit end that sends a wireless signal to the camera when reverse is engaged? Is that right?

Forgive me if I’m being slow, but how is the power ‘picked up’? Does it need some sort of splicing? It would be great if the power came from plugging this new component in where the previous number plate light was. Is that possible?

Lastly, are the four LEDs number plate lights, or do they light the way behind the car?

I’m in the process of doing this, but a house move delayed things and the car is still parked up in the garage in London!

I also wired in a front camera when I had the bumper off to replace the AC condensers

For the front cam did you manage to feed the wire through where the main loom comes into the cabin on the pass side?

Yes that was the idea, I’ve done the pre cabling for the camera from the bumper to the frunk; but haven’t had the time to fully install it.

I am also planning powering them from the joyeauto unit

House moves are terribly inconvenient 😣

On my to do list too, I don't really need a reversing cam as my sensors and mirrors are sufficient.

That looks great, thanks for putting up the picture. Quality on the PCM screen looks better than I had expected.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised as well tbh for the price of the camera.  Still not convinced that it will last through heavy wet weather but easy enough to swap out.

Porsche sell a housing for the 718 rear cam so if it doesn't last that could be the solution.

I've bought front and rear cams now so will have a play when they arrive. Bought a slightly different one to you.

Ooh I didn’t know that! Do you happen to have a part number handy?

also @robporsche how did you get the wire in from rear cam?

Watch my video on YouTube for accessing the engine bay, in through the rear light, roof in service position and then along the door sill trim I guess.

yeah pretty much as daz said,  rear light off,  wire from number plate up using a stiff wire, up and through the rear light cavity,  and you can route round the engine bay and then underneath the rubber seal for the door, honestly took about 10 mins was very easy, once you have a good look there is a nice and easy path.

tbh im not too bothered as it was easy to do,  thing for me is its not central so im not actually using it for reversing into the garage as its slightly out lol.   I was parked up the other day in a high street a car parked close and was good to put it in reverse and you can check how close they were before going back.     tbh if you not that bothered about it i wouldnt bother other than the trick aspect sensors are better for me but i had to do it.

Interesting point about the offset position of the cam. Is central is essential?

For me yeah it really needs to be, and to be totally safe especially trying to get it into the garage I think the central would be best.

Nice work, hard to tell from the pictures but what route have you taken into the cabin from the front end? Is there a small way in by the fuel tank?

Cheers! in my car there was a blank plate just behind the brake booster under the ac lines. Plastic plug that can be pushed out from under the dash from drivers side. I drilled a hole in this to pass the cables through.

I also used 3 way connectors and replaced the phono connection from camera.

Thanks for that, I've not quite so keen on drilling but I'll take a look.
