Kentmg
I am seriously looking at my first Porsche, a 2017 Boxster S with 16,000 miles. I am buying through CarMax. I understand these cars to be quite reliable. Should I purchase the extended warranty at about $2400 with a $500 deductible? The warranty is good for 5 years or 75,000 miles. I will likely own the car for 3 to 5 years at about 10,000 miles/year.
Paul P
Hi - welcome. Guessing you are US based. Most folks on here are in the UK, not an issue of course, but we aren't likely to have much experience with 3rd party warranties from other parts of the world. But generally - these cars are pretty reliable - no big known issues with the latest generations. BUT - they are complicated, and dealer labour rates and genuine parts are not cheap - so, like all warranties and insurance its a gamble. For 3rd party warranties 1) what exclusions are there? 2) whats the flexibility on where you get things fixed ( can it be anywhere, or a certain chain of garages, main dealers etc) 3) Whats the hourly rate for labour they will cover? 4) Whats the "per claim" limit? 5) Any requirement on "servicing" - where / how often etc. Whatever you decide - they are fantastic cars - and there's a lot of folks on here with great knowledge of them, and there are no dumb questions. Enjoy...
