Driver side ventilation failed for heat/cooling… (basic A/C - not climate)

My base-spec 2013 981 with basic (not climate/split) A/C isn’t directing either cooled or heated air to the dash vents (at least). There is airflow but after a longish drive today during which I wanted cooling at one point and heating at another, we discovered that only the passenger side is getting hot/cold air.

Anyone know if there’s a mechanical flap that could account for this? I guess the airflow I am getting is external ambient - but as far as I can tell it is being fan assisted…

After googling/basic investigation, it looks as of the single zone HVAC unit probably has just one stepper motor driving both temperature flaps. The motor appears (on UK car) to be on the passenger side - the mounting point on the drivers side is empty.

As such, I’m guessing the connection between the two flaps has failed - a big job to fix…
