oil gauge issue

Hello I'm the new owner of a 2014 boxter. It was a one owner 8K mile flawless machine.

The question I have concerns the oil level indicator.  I checked the level once I got the car home and the car was cold (75F). it said min level reached. I took it back to the dealer and had them check the level. they brought the car back after about 15 minutes and said it was 1/2 quart low so they topped it off. I got the car back home feeling better about the situation and checked the level again it said oil level is OK. The gauge shows only the bottom bar of the gauge green. If the oil is full I would expect to see all of the bars of the gauge as green. With my corvettes (3 of them) I always checked the level when the car was cold. Since I'm new to Porsche am I doing it wrong?

i have made another appointment to take the car back but thought I would check here to make sure I don't look like an idiot.

Thanks

the gauges only represent the "top" of the level - empty to full on the gauge is typically about 1.5 litres ish.... (depending on the model)

There is a "proper" fill process for a 981 that some garages don't seem to follow ( often results in an overfill) and with the right diagnostics tools a very accurate measurement can be had - the guage is typically a reference for the driver, not the guy changing the oil.

If it;s a porsche dealer or a specialist - they should know how to do it, otherwise they may be guessing.

If it's anything like the 987.2 - the car will tell you if the conditions for checking the level are correct - i.e. if you try when it's not at the right temp or ( in the 987.2 case) if the engine isn't running you will see that in the display so chances are if you are getting a reading and no warnings then you are doing it right.
