  1. Were LIME were awarded the contract by a local council (or similar)? If so, have you tried reporting it to them and asking what action they suggest? Some councils licencing "Boris bikes", e-scooters, etc have taken action against these companies as a result of complaints from residents. Worth at least registering a complaint with them. They should have a local senior contact in the company that could assist.

What made you swap from a 2013 to 2016? Was it better and lower miles? 👍🏼

Just an update really. 2013 car had done nearly 40k miles which isn’t huge but steadily increasing. It had PDK, PASM, Sport Chrono, dual zone aircon, electric folding mirrors, heated seats, nav, phone, F&R park assist, etc so was decent spec and great for touring which is main usage. Idly started scanning the ads for a late 981 GTS but soon realised that a GTS was about £8-10k more than an S of equivalent age, miles and spec which is bonkers. I couldn’t tell the difference on a test drive. Found this 2016 S with 19k miles and all the features of my 2013 car plus PSE, PDLS (so much better than standard Bi-Xenon), DAB radio, Bose, reversing camera (almost essential for my home), TPM, auto dimming mirrors, etc plus 2.5 years Porsche warranty. And 6 cylinders, an absolute must. Immaculate.

Nice.  Do you have photos (possibly not given the weather at the moment!)?

You made me feel guilty. Here's one they sent me before they prepared it properly (!). Let's see if this works.

  4. Took my Agate 2013 981S (owned it for 8 years) to Porsche Centre Solihull yesterday and picked up a replacement 2016 981S in Guards Red. Amazing car in fantastic condition. In my researches I reckon the difference between a 2016 GTS and an S of the same age, spec and miles is at least £8k and often £10k or even £12k. That's a lot of money for a G & T!  After a test drive in a GTS I couldn't find any discernible difference on the road vs my old S with PASM, Sport Chrono etc, so looked for another well-specified S instead. This one has everything I want, even the recently released MY 2021 PCM maps!

  5. The impression I get from a bit of recent market testing is that options don't do much at all for the value. It's more an issue of what options your car has vs what the buyer actually wants, or sometimes actively doesn't want, which results in a sale.

Those are the important bits entered during coding.

Thanks for confirming that Richard. That's what I assumed when I bought the Bosch. I also found an article somewhere that Banner, Bosch and Varta of this size are all made in the same Varta factory, which doesn't necessarily mean the internals are identical but does explain why the cases are.

  7. I changed my 8-year old original Porsche/Banner recently for a Bosch Type 115 S5A11 from Tayna Batteries. 5 year guarantee and is absolutely identical externally to the original - even the temporary terminal covers fit in the same holes. £135.38 delivered next day. I do not have Porsche Extended Warranty and don't have plans to do so. Original battery still functions OK (has always spent non-driving time on CTEK) but I had two very odd low cranking incidents and changed it proactively in case I got stranded somewhere remote. No problems doing the change or since - there's lots of anecdotal evidence particularly from the US that many Porsche dealers don't code a new battery into the car anyway. On a recent OPC visit to get my power steering rack replaced they pointed out the non-Porsche battery and offered to charge me over £90 to code it in, which I declined.

  8. I hate the coasting feature, especially if the car increases speed going down gentle hills. After >50 years of driving I like the car to slow down, however gradually, when I take my foot off the accelerator. I always turn it off by turning off stop/start which turns off coasting too. Makes it much easier to drive along motorways and adapt to the continual change of speed. I also suspect that the continual disengagement/reengagement of drive at steady motorway speeds must increase clutch wear compared to always having 7th engaged. Personal preference, but that's mine.

Says they can strip and rebuild Automatic gearboxes in their Menu. ???  Would be good if they could.

As I understand it, I don't think anybody rebuilds PDKs. Porsche won't supply parts, unless something has changed.

  10. My Indy was £610 + VAT earlier this year for 8 year service, including pollen filter, spark plugs and brake fluid change as per Porsche schedule using genuine Porsche parts.

  11. 1 Use the footwell socket. Works fine.

3 Officially yes, but some OPCs don't seem to be rigorous. It's a 5 min job to take them off anyway, and another 5 mins to put them back on afterwards.

4 Depending on wheel size, the later P Zero N ratings are completely different. The only ones I have experience of are 20" wheels - N0 was not confidence inspiring but in my view N1 is dramatically better, and gives better ride too. But 19" wheels have had more N versions (now up to N2) and I have no idea if 19" N1 was similar to 20" N1 or whether 20" N1 is similar to 19" N2.

  12. The standard front and rear luggage compartment lights are rather gloomy. Has anyone here successfuly installed LED ones? There seem to be lots available for 987 but albeit without extensive searching I haven't yet found any for 981. Has anyone done this, and if so, what did you use and did you experience any problems? Thanks.

  13. I’ve been sharing notes with an Indie who had just recovered a 991 with the same symptoms. He uses two companies that repair steering racks but neither would touch these and he wasn’t aware of anyone who could. Just had mine replaced by OPC Sheffield. Expensive part but agreed sensible price to replace remaining original front control arm at same time. By far the most convenient solution for me. Could do the job weeks earlier than anyone else, brand new courtesy car and exemplary service. In addition to the usual OPC inspection video of brakes, tyres, exhaust etc I asked for and received an additional video and technician opinion on the overall condition of the underside of the car, which was very instructive. All in good condition, happy to report.

  14. I've now tried the lock-to-lock reset - no joy. I guess as mine is a 2013 car I am in for a rack unless there is something simple like a cable break. In the version of the parts list I have, there are 14 discontinued or "no longer use" part numbers for the complete "Steering Gear". The only parts available separately are bellows, clamping rings, nuts, track rod etc. So whatever fails in the main rack/assistance motor assembly, the only option is to buy the lot, as I understand it. Next step is a trip to OPC on Nov 8. Will report back.
