It doesn't seem so I remember @villaman had a 981S that had Carnewal but no PSE function and his car sounded good but no crackles and pops like other cars that day. I assumed that is something that gets installed with PSE.

Howdy....Had a Carnewal fitted to my old 981...i think it lasted about 2 months before i bit the bullet and had the PSE fitted at CPS as it was better than stock but not a patch on the PSE.

@Lonewolf has also had one retro fitted at CPS.

Carnewal is passive system without any electronic vacum control.

The overrun crackles and pops cannot be achieved with hardware alone, as the PSE requires an ECU / Map update on PIWIS to "over fuel".

Looks awesome buddy, think I'm going to have to x73 spring mine.

I'd jump on this now as there appears to be a limited amount of kits now available in Porsche Germany after being out of stock for well over a year ..just ordered my kit for install in April.

Price of Spyders is just too high.  A few months into Buttercup I bought a used one with 500 miles.  Advertised at £99k but after 2 hour’s negotiation bought for £90k.  Although sold it 7 months later for £86k.

    Why pray tell?

  4. Hi Rob.

Great car mate....love that Carmine Red.... Sorry to see the Spyder go mind.....you know how much I love these. The 981 GTS must be a sweet spot in the range as you've gone back into one?

Look forward to seeing it in person hopefully at some stage in the future buddy.

I'm interested in the "Twitchy'nes" of the 718 Spyder...do you know what suspension set up they have ?

  5. My two pennies..

Brought the car last year without and it wasn't a deal breaker or on my Must Have List. However, having been behind a couple of fellow forum members on runs I thought it sounded great.

I put the Carnewal on in August last year but whilst an improvement on the stock, it wasn't anywhere near the PSE. So I umm'd and aaa'd for a while but the first thing i did when it came out for the Spring was get Cotswold to replace the Carnewal with the PSE. Best £2k ive spent on the car....i chuckle all the time at how it sounds. I'll never buy another Porsche without one again

Childish..quite possibly...but as @Buzzfoxquite rightly said...its all arguably unnecessary and self indulgent to have a sports car and driving faster than you should just for the pleasure of it....

    Grow Up !

Well on the 9th May I’ll be doing a 140 mile run win the PCGB Region so will have some good feedback to share following that hopefully 👍

I had the PSE retro fitted back in Nov so after the x73 the car is where I want it to be. I’ll just drive it and enjoy then 😂👍

Similar route to me...just had the PSE fitted last month and the X73 Anti roll bars.....but think i'l fir the shocks and springs too.

What region are you ?...mine haven't arranged any runs yet :(

5th May I’m in. Fingers crossed that there’s no hold up on the parts from Germany 🇩🇪 👍

Will look forward to your thoughts 👍🏽

Im probably going to push the button on either Sports headers..or...the X73 Kit in the next few weeks.

Still undecided which one I need to prioritise first as in truth , I'll probably end up doing both eventually.

Spoke to my OPC this week about getting it fitted to my 981 Boxster 2.7. Mines a toy and not a daily to I’m going to go with it. Luckily I have the beautiful Welsh roads to play on and once you get out of the city there not too bad Re condition so I think it’ll be perfect.  Cost £2630. What the heck I can’t take it with me 😂👍

So..have you booked this in or will you do this ?

An informed decision would be a fully analogue 986 with proper coilovers tuned for your specific requirements.

    And maybe a bigger motor.

    But failing that 🤣

The other option, IMHO, is to look at Öhlins Road & Track coilovers for your car. Probably similar money at the end of it all and way, way more sophisticated damping.

A friend is running Öhlins R&T on his 997 and raves about their compliance, control and general loveliness.

Have a look at them and maybe give Chris and CG a call for some solid real world advice.

BTW my mate’s 997 isn’t as quick cross country as my 986. Just sayin’

Thanks Matthew...good advise ..and i have read a lot of positive comments about the  Öhlins kit...it is certainty an option as I don't need to worry about warranty now.

However, i do have to take exception with the below comment,...

BTW my mate’s 997 isn’t as quick cross country as my 986. Just sayin’

A GT3 might struggle to keep up with your wolf in sheep's clothing old chum..lets be honest !!!

  10. Ive recently installed the X73 front and rear anti roll bars and think this has greatly improved  the overall handling  ( Thanks @daz05). Admittedly, some fit just the rear to improve understeer, but i think its improved the handling , ...certainly from today spirited driver... (well to clarify...as spirited as SWMBO would allow).

However...ive got a current quote to go the whole hog and fit the full kit .   I'm now playing with my man maths calculator..which in truth has never to this day been able to do the sums with a result other that an emphatic "YES. it adds up" !!....)

I would though like the opinion of my fellow 981 owners to help me justify the $2500..( @Patt  ???)  ..i know it will be a little more bumpy but will i get a return on this investment to justify it ????.....or should i look at other upgrades for the amount of money  ?

    Your help is appreciated,

What I don't understand is why one is compatible to both variants of the 981 and the fibre model is just for the caymen.

I think they must both be...I can't see why that wouldn't be the case.

Yes just seen the carbon variant.

This one states it is compatible with both Boxster and Cayman??

Reading this and other forums for a long time, I’ve come to the conclusion that the PSE must be up there as the most unreliable and utterly pointless options available. All it does is make a noise - when it works - with no performance gains whatsoever. Surely those who desire a loud growl before the howl would be better off biting the bullet and fitting a decent performance exhaust. Or am I missing something ...?

    Yes.

Yer very good point on the R8. The front storage is not great, the coupe gives you some room behind the seats but I think the Spyder loses that.

What about a stepping stone into a 981 Spyder until you can jump into the 718 variant ?

This is the route I am going to takem, probably next year. If I had the money it would be the 718 Spyder but like you I cannot afford and/or justify that for a summer car.

The 981 Spyder is the top of the 981 tree by some margin in my view and looks stunning with a GT4 engine !

Could this be an option ?
