  1. New head unit,

    Downsized to 17" Cayman alloys,

    Debadged rear,

    Porsche Revolution exhaust mod,

& damn your collective hides I'll be adding the front strut brace(s) that I just discovered here & purchased today on fleabay.

I'll look into that bally brace & otherwise I'll refresh the suspension at some point.

I'd convinced myself that I have the car pretty much how I want it till I read about the braces - the suspension refresh was always on the cards.

didn't have the tools/garage space/time/skills to be dropping the subframe!

Time & skill are the big ones for me. I'm sure given enough time I could do most jobs. When I read people saying it's a DIY job, I forget that the car is a weekend car for a lot of people. Consequently they can leave it up on the stands while they source the odd bit that broke or didn't factor for  in the repair. It's my daily so I really don't have that luxury. If I'm not confident I can do a job over a weekend then it's into the shop.

There are no rattles from the suspension and it seems to ride just fine.

It might surprise you how much difference makes to your drive. I was persuaded to refresh stock suspension on my Mk3 MR2 after 15 yrs & 75k miles on the original suspension. Felt like a new car afterwards. I've 106k on the Boxster & saving up for that.

  4. I paid a decent indie £620 for coolant crosspipes + 4 hoses replaced + a £20 connecting piece that they found needed doing.

It's worth shopping around. First place wanted £1100 to do all 14 pipes - "Aye, it starts off as 6 pipes but before you know it your replacing all of them". Then phoned me later that day to say he had a ramp had come available & he could fit me in the following day. Aye, right.

  5. Warning light coming on after you apply the brakes for the first time after start up? My electrical head says you've broken through the insulation on the sensor & make a short to the disc, triggering the warning light first time you brake.

Probably have about 4mm left in that case I reckon.

When the warning light comes on immediately you start the car, then you'll have worn through the sensor wire, open circuit, likely 1-2mm left then.

Been through both scenarios lately & that's my logic. I'm prepared to be shot down for lack of it, however.

  6. Gave it a bath yesterday & polished the headlights with some G3 compound & a waffle pad. I added some 303 UV protectant to them last time & didn't seem to last very long before they needed polishing again. I note the 303 says to reuse every 3-4 weeks 🤔

Did the left headlight with 303 again & the right with the PTFE wax I'd previously used on the paintwork which also says it offers UV protection. I'll see which comes up best. (& also whether I remember or not to reapply the 303 at recommended intervals).

  7. Got the (new to me) Revolution Sport exhaust fitted today. Sounds pretty much stock until you give it the beans.

Revving at standstill seems soooo much louder than under load. Not sure it would pass any trackday dB levels at that (should I ever take the plunge).

So far really pleased with it.

  8. Over the last couple of days got a few jobs out the way.

Firstly I debadged the rear of the car. I know this  can polarise people a bit but i prefer the clean look & not getting my sheepskin mitt taken apart by the "Boxster" logo on the boot lid.

All that & it's a base car but some previous owner decided it ought to have an "S" after the Boxster, even though it isn't. This in particular has always irked me coming from owning a MR2 mk3 with a 2zz engine swap. Going from a wolf in sheep's clothing to a tw*t in wolf's clothing.

The "S" had obviously been lifting & the previous owner had glued the tail of the S down with something hideous & hard 😡. Big thanks to whoever posted on another thread to use WD40 👍. Strong sunshine, said WD40 & elbow grease (well, thumb grease) & thumb nail finally got rid of that after about 20 mins effort.

    Zunsport grilles fitted.

Car washed, dressed with Poorboys Black Hole & waxed after. Car looks tremendous, especially with its newly clean bottom 😊.

Finally replaced the front bumper clips with a new set after previous bumper removal revealed them to be rusting quickly.

Jobs on the list; clean the interior, have the boot lid detailed (can still see some Boxster S marking when the light is right/wrong), couple of tweaks on the sound system. Oh, & an exhaust some time before MOT in October.

Collected it & paid my first serious Porsche bill. Four front coolant hoses & crossover pipes done + one additional pipe adapter to the NSF radiator.

Big up to Lorimer & Findlay, Glasgow, who came in with a very reasonable price.

Next job will need to the the exhaust as one side is holed. Choices to be pondered & decisions to be made.

On that note. Anyone in Soctland within a decent drive of Glasgow with an aftermarket exhaust who might be able to let me hear/experience what's available? No rush.

I hadn’t heard of C5 before, so just watched their ‘how to apply’ video. Did you use the pre and post product, or just the C5?

Just wondering whether all three are really necessary?

I didn't use any of their pre or post product (wasn't aware of them). The wheels got a good clean & finished the clean using brake cleaner prior to using the C5 product.

  12. Mild spell incoming!

Well. Vredestein's law so I'm guessing so.

Fitted my winter wheels on the car today, so I suspect the weather will prove my decision wrong.

Odd difference on old summer rubber to new. I bought the 17" wheels locally with old Michelin summer (7yo from & 10yo rear)  tyres & shoved them (slid them) over the back of the old BMW wagon. Tried to do the same with the wheels on the new rubber. No go. Had to man-handle them across. Bodes well for winter traction, I hope.

Cleaning the summer wheels before putting them away, noticed a ton of "tar" on the inside of the OSR wheel. Still not cleaned it off properly. A job for a litre or so of tar-remover come spring.
