Went for a lovely drive around the North York Moors. Top down of course.
Glad you weren’t in Chesterfield on Friday 20th you would have needed a propeller.

S14.
Sorry, I do appreciate it was £177/Pa but that is a long way from £537/pa
Cheers Dave

S14.
Gawd knows how you got such a small offer of £177 for 3 years.
The devils have just quoted me £537.
I must be subsidising yours!
I’ll have to try elsewhere or stick with Privilege

Evening all.
I have just had a renewal notice for my 1999 2.7 Boxster at £295 fully comp with Privilege this is £62 up on last year. I’m 69 with a clean license and full no claims. Limited mileage at 5k -6k per annum
Can anyone suggest anywhere cheaper as I’m a cheap skate!
cheers Dave

They’re also supposed to be good in 1” of snow if your balls are big enough?

Re ‘Maybe be time for a new switch’
I replaced the electrical one but not the mechanical one.
if SWMBO indoors would allow I’d have a new car and sod the switch!
Anyway my 6 numbers are due to come up supposedly.✈️🐖

Cheers chaps for the replies.
The first locking part of my ignition switch is so worn that position 1 is pretty indiscernible from NO instrument lights being on.
To position 2 with full Blackpool illuminations. So I’m pleased that so long as I leave the key in after turning ignition fully on and then off, or leave Blackpool illuminations on and then disconnect the battery that I can avoid having an air bag fault light even if I have to disconnect it.

Unique, definitely not as most buyers appear to have had catastrophic experiences. If it was my money I wouldn’t buy anything from them.
I was a Porsche virgin and bought with my heart and eyes fully closed.
First Indy bill was £2,500.For me it’s a ‘Carry on looking’ and good luck.

Help….
I have a fault with my horn going off randomly until the horn steering wheel pad is moved it’s very loud and non stop.
Having watched you tube I know how to strip and cure the problem with O rings but need to know the correct key position to
a) disconnect the battery without the alarm going off.
b) to avoid having to take the car to a garage to get the airbag light reset if I disconnect it.
c)anyone know what size O rings to use?
Cheers Dave

Bravo Nobbie!
I too have read the Ladybird books, but maybe not all the explicit ones.
Made my evening, cheers🐞 -

That was my first thought too but I've had that before and usually I stop and reverse a few metres. That usually causes the stone to drop out. This is different.
Have you replaced the rear discs?
I put Brembo ones on the rear and have the same problem going round bends, apparently my garage say it’s the machining on the disc not being deep enough or wide enough for the backplate. Obviously there must be a bit of left to right movement on tight bends as it stops on the straights

Wow!
Any chance I can have your old oil?

That’s obviously where I went wrong. I left the key in on position one. You live and learn by mistakes don’t you!
-
I think the moment you disconnect the battery the very loud alarm will go off

I’ve just replaced mine and marked up the positions of the mounts at the bottom of the door and went with those.
I tried marking the position of the glass but found I was able by slacking off the glass retainers to get a better fit between the glass and the door/ hood seals than I had before.
Only thing I would say is to put the ignition switch to position 1 before disconnecting the battery and leave it off for 15 mins before disconnecting the drivers door air bag.***Note you will need to get the air bag light cleared when everything is reconnected.
***Im not sure what I did wrong if anything but this happened to me.

Thanks for the quick reply as usual.
Can you advise if the micro switch is removable without taking the handle off.
Also can you recommend a cheap code reader for a 1999 Boxster.
And finally can you possibly confirm if a VW Golf drivers door lock mechanism which I believe is a Mk 5 item that will substitute for a Porsche item.

Help again similar problems.
I have just replaced the drivers side window mechanism (cable snapped) and now the interior door lights stay on and won’t go off, I also get a single beep when trying to lock the car. Window also doesn’t drop on pulling the door handle from inside or out, but strangely on using the key in the door the window goes up but not down.
I also have the airbag light on even though I disconnected the battery long before when I disconnected the wires to the airbag.Solutions please Dave

Best answer I found, was once you get in is to reroute the manual release cable so it can be got at through the front passenger side radiator intake, so no further need to take the wheel off.
Also keep wheel locking key (if you have one) in the car and not the Frunk.
I may be wrong but lots, maybe hundreds have been in the same boat.
Cheers Dave

Are you sure it’s not the backplates rubbing?
I got a set of Brembo rear discs and pads and had a constant sound.
I went back to the garage who fitted them and he said the groove in the Brembo disc wasn’t as deep as the OE discs. After 100 miles it stopped rubbing. It basically rubbed away the backplate by a few thou.

29.4 mpg!
You aren’t trying hard enough.
Keep practicing

I recently replaced mine and it solved quite a few problems. However my drivers window is now not dropping on pulling the handle and a red light shows on the key symbol switch.
Good luck with fitting the ignition switch, easy if your under 4 ft or a contortionist, so I’m told. I did mine through the vent and am still pulling scans off!

Drivers door window issues
in 986
Posted
On unlocking my 986 using the key fob the drivers window starts going up and down uncontrollably by about 1/2”, but goes higher than it should to seal in the hood. So if I close the door the window is above the roof and so won’t shut.
To stop it I have to get in and manually lower window with the window button and then close door and put window up.
Obviously with it playing up locking the car is a balls ache. I have to lower the window , close door and press and hold key fob to close the window and lock the car.
Is the problem a badly set window height, faulty door lock mechanism or door handle microswitch as window doesn’t always drop as it should when unlocking.
Happy new year to all with hopefully cheap cures for all with overspent credit cards.
