Spent half of yesterday removing old faulty ignition switch via side vent and then found replacement was incorrect. A journey to motor factors at 8.30am this morning with old one to match to and 3 hours later one was delivered to motor factor. Good service especially on an Easter Saturday by PCS Clay Cross.
By 2.30 new one fitted and all lights wipers and fan now work.
I will admit that it’s a real pita with a skinned forearm and a lot of frustration trying to unscrew and screw up the terribly in access lug screws.
if you have big hands it’s horrible as it’s mostly done by feel.
Anyway Happy Easter to all and thank gawd it’s sorted.
Maybe could do it in 45 mins next time.

To Letsmile, McDonald, Scubaregs and Araf.
Thanks for the replies.
I have noticed over the years that there is always humour and banter on this forum along with masses of invaluable knowledge on problem solving and part sourcing. This is supplied almost instantly totally FOC by forum members.
There was and will never be any intention in any of my posts to offend others. Sorry Letsmile if you misread my humorous play on words and I will continue to read your progress with interest.
Apologies to all Dave- 2

If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen 😁 It’s not just a car, it’s a love affair 😁 If you want normal, go and buy a ford focus!
With tongue definitely in cheek.
If your love affair has been in the garage since 2008 you couldn’t have been that deeply in love.
But I love the amount of Euros you are now lavishing on her! Good man

I bet there are or have been some ‘newbies’ to Boxster /Porsche ownership that wish they had a pit to bury their cars in.
The dream of owning a Porsche getting outweighed by the reality.
I know I was there!

Hello all.
Have just hit a rather miraculously peculiar coincidental mileometer reading
144,444 on the clock and 44.4 on the trip at the same moment.
Hope my blasted lottery numbers come up.

It’s how you drive it Sir!
or
Get a lighter passenger!

Well, the accusation from other unknowledgeable drivers is that Boxster are hairdressers cars anyway!

Surely though the following should apply. If you have an accident you have
No insurance cover for bald tyres
No insurance cover for no MOT
No insurance cover for modifying your cars engine without notification.
An observant assessor may just spot bulbs if it’s not a head on smash

Wet carpet
in 986
I have 4 similar ones and it’s an interesting exercise to weigh them before and after microwaving.
However I think you are being very optimistic if you think they will help to dry the carpet. They really in my experience only absorb condensation -
Check the size of your slot and hardtop tang before ordering. I got those for my hard top while I had it and they were too small. Best get from OPC

Any more rain and I’m going to invite David Attenborough or Chris Packham to do a waterlife programme!

Why is a car as well built as a Boxster so flawed when it comes to water ingress so most of us have watercress or frogs in our footwells.
If it keeps raining like it has done in Derbyshire for the remaining part of the Christmas holiday period I’m tempted to do what Top Gear did to Oliver in Africa. Get a gun or in legal terms a drill and hole cutter to let the water out.

Good tip.
It may seem crazy to put forward a canine product to squidge up water, but a Groomers aquasorb does a good job.
push seat right forward, lay the doubled aquasorb on the carpet near rear bulkhead and push down into between rear firewall and carpet and then stand on top, pull out, wring out and repeat. You get loads out.

I suppose the tag Menoporsche gives a slight clue to your period of life!

congratulations young man 😊
More like congratulations ‘Old’ man as he’s 76, however as we are all living longer and he’s now got his little Jackrabbit he could be a kid 👦 as he certainly is at heart.

Technology has moved on in the spectacle field as well. My wife has just bought new specs which are not only stronger and thinner than her last ones also have a magnetic capability that allows new modern dark glasses to stick to the frame. The other bells and whistle feature is they are anti dazzle.
Shame they were £850 otherwise I’d be having a pair!
Obviously a new drivers seat is no longer on the Xmas list.

My neighbour lent me a ‘battery fighter’ charger come maintainer, when I plugged it in nothing happened.
It was only when I read the bumf that I realised to kick in the battery needed 3v in it. I thought WTF, what good is that to a flat battery.
it looks like the preferred option for a maintainer is Ctec but I do recommend Tayna for a new battery @£90 delivered.
At least it takes the worry out of a modern battery dying instantly miles from home as happened with my VW Sharan.
It’s frosty tonight in Chesterfield and the cars covered in ice so a semi knackered battery would be a liability. -
Thanks for the tips Nobbie, it worked like a dream with no problems.
I would highly recommend Tayna for batteries. I ordered at nearly closing time and delivery was 11.00 next day, excellent service.

New Varta F18 ordered from Tayna at £90 delivered.
Local guys want £106 or much more from ECP or CP4L
Any advice on swapping / disconnecting re key position or attaching jump leads to keep power live?
Cheers Dave

Jackrabbit your use of English suggests you aren’t American. Would I be correct?
Lovely car and not a bad dinghy behind it!

Frunk emergency cable and battery charger found. Now praying as it’s 10 years sine the charger was used!
if all fails what battery do you recommend and who’s the best priced online supplier.
currently got a Varta Silver Dynamic F18 85ah 800a
Cheers for the help Dave now even PoorerDave

Usual problem I’m afraid, it’s so flat I have no instrument lights and the electrical interlock stops the bonnet opening.
suppose it’s time to find the hidden cable!
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

Only problem was I tried that route and nearly put my back out and at 68, 15.5 stone and 4 hip replacements it wasn’t worth pursuing without having the fire brigade on speed dial.
