  1. morning all, as the weather isnt great thought id have a play around with a cheap rear camera,  just wondering has anyone routed the cable from front to the back of the car and if so does the car have to be in service mode, im assuming there be a rubber grommit somewhere between boot and engine bay.   seen videos for 911's but nothing for the 981

    thanks

  2. I did this I think it was one of the first jobs I did. Absolute ball ache of a job to be honest although it's probably the same level and install the carplay and taking the dials out.  Door card off is easy just routing the wiring through the rubber and into the fuse area and around to the footwell lights is pretty easy, it's tight and be careful what you use to feed the cable through I read on one of the USA forums he used a coat hanger then alot of electrics stopped working and he had pierced several of the wires inside the rubber grommet and caused a short and cost slot because it took hours to find.  It's doable I done it in a weekend but just bought those cheap Porsche badge lights to see what they are like.  I do have my eye on a set of the crisp white Porsche logo lights but last time I looked they were about £115.

  3. did a search and read the first 7 pages but couldnt see if anyone has done it. I installed carplay and have easy access to the camera connectors now,  hell wiring the camera cant be harder than the wires from the carplay unit.

seen some cameras on ali express which replaced one of the rear number plate lights as i dont want to drill the rear bumper

  4. finished off my carplay install today,   took longer than i hoped but i was in and out dropping kids off at bbqs etc so would have been nice to concentrate on it.   man is it fiddly,  ive changed loads of things on the car but hmmm  i didnt enjoy this one,  taking the pcm apart is dead easy but the wires and finding somewhere nice and out the way.   the biggest problem for me was once the 12v port panel near passenger footwell is removed, it really does make it very easy.  happy with what its given me,  google maps, waze,  amazon music, spotify.

managed to rout a cable into the armrest from the back of  unit so i can hardwire it to the joyeauto rather than wireless if i need to.

overall really happy with how it looks and the functionality.

The prices of the 987.2 and the 981s seem to have skyrocketed. I bought my 981s about 5/6 weeks ago and a friend of mine is after something similar but it looks like to buy my car today you would need another £5/6k which is ridiculous.
A decent spec 981s seems very rare, there are plenty on nice spec 2.7 about but they are very expensive by comparison.

I had a guy stop me the other day and asked if I was interested in selling it I told him prices ar which seemed unfazed. Wbac offering 32k for mine.  Trouble is GTR has also risen so I'm not winning

Don’t worry. I was careful. Especially after paying to get it ceramic coated!

Kept the car wet and dried as I went along.

Bought a couple of those super-absorbent drying cloths which are excellent. Those and Wheel Woolies by far my favourite bits of cleaning kit of late.

FFS. The fact I now have favourite car cleaning items depresses me, I used to be mildly more interesting! 😢😃

lol,  not sure what that makes me then,  completely boring, i love cleaning cars.   Wheel woolies are great,  you wait it will be addicted, you will need to be with a black car.    Get one of those cheap pet driers and you wont have to hardly touch the paintwork,  there are levels and once you get one of those there really is no going back lol

Played the "trying to wash a black car in the sun and it not looking 4rse" game

playing a dangerous game,  one of my regular customers, chops and changes cars every few months and hes always buying black cars.   This weekend an A4 cab and in black,  always states min swirls.

You have done so much to yours Rob, you might regret selling!

I know,  it was obviously never bought to make money on,  my mate and neighbour have both said im mad for thinking about it.  Perhaps i need to give  my head wobble.  I have always wanted a GTR though lol

  9. well i thought i'd join in,  and just see what i got from WBAC,  30,700 and now 31,000 today.   Im actually very tempted by that,  ive spent a fair bit on it but ive enjoyed it.  I was just about to pull the trigger on a carplay unit but id be tempted to sit out the market for a bit cash in pocket and see what else comes up.

  10. what sort of sort is it for a DIYer?   havent had the issue but its probably only a matter of time as im the same top down heater on my feet.

  11. OEM, I be got a mate that bought Ali ones and they just don't fit as nice bear in mine even OEMs protrude alittle at the front.   They have the dynamic led indicators now on Ali, my mates ordered them, I warned him after the last lot but he paid forty odd Pound and can't wait.   I'll see how good they are.

I think you were very brave but it has paid off, looks excellent 👌

stupid, yep did think half way through here's me kissing a few hundred goodbye when i have to buy a new cluster,  i had worried too much if im honest because i heard the needles bend really easy but if you lift it straight up then no problem but does take a fair bit of force.

  13. finally got round to fitting the rev gauge in red,   tbh its not for the faint hearted and i was regretting it half way through,  now knowing how much pressure to apply and how things come out then its pretty straightforward.   Made some mistakes and with the needle but managed to work out what i had done wrong so pay attention to where that was sitting when you put it back, i think i was too concerned with breaking it but its actually quite though.

really happy with red accents inside the cabin now.

still want things to do though,  perhaps carplay next :)

I didn’t. I brought a second exhaust and dropped it off with them and picked it up the following week. I then got my good friend Sid at Porsche Torque to fit it for me.

Ian at H&S will do it whilst you wait but says it can take a while depending on how s difficult to remove your existing exhaust is. He’s super helpful so drop him and email if yoU are interested

yeah i spoke to him a few years back and he mentioned it could take upto 6 hours,   tbh i dont really like leaving the car anywhere.  shame he doesnt offer a carnewal service,  modified exhaust swapped out with the original one and then modifies that and on and on

I couldn't stump up the money for PSE and with Carnewal less convenient currently I went a different route.  Brought a second exhaust (better condition than the one currently on my car, which was nice) and had it modified by. Hayward and Scott in Basildon.  Very very happy.

Hmm.  I guess I know the one.  I found another in North London.  Wondered about it but I think it was geraintthomas who said it wasn't so easy on the 987 (I want a rev counter) and also I want orange, for which an orange needle against an orange background wouldn't be so visible!

found this on youtube,  looks pretty straightforward,  easier than the 981,   as long as you have patience and a good eye for fiddly things i think you should be fine.

You say "to come", does that imply you order the acetate precut-printed then install it yourself?

I see you have an orange hand on a red background, that was also something I thought needed addressing if ever I do mine.

yeah company in Germany,   got to say so far they have been an absolute nightmare to deal with,  rev gauge came damaged and i've spent over 2 weeks chasing them for another, they then told me to cut it up and send them pictures before they would send another out, even though ive sent pictures of it, the wait is going to be about 3 weeks as they are hand made (not sure if that's true)

the orange hand,  i just assumed that they were all orange and weren't different if the clock face was a different colour.

    Being done by who, please?

By little old me... Chrono wasn't too bad, but I had to watch several videos and there isn't one which shows completely how to do it.  Now I know what's what it won't take less 1hour to do. I'm not very delicate with tweezers, that's the most nerve racking...  And the vents are pain to get out you need them out to access the screws for the chrono

Not sure if these photos will work, but I'm liking it. Will update when I get the rev counter done but that might take another couple of weeks to come.

  19. swapped out the standard black chrono clock dial for a lovely red one to match the paintwork and seatbelts.   unfortunatley the rev counter i also received was damaged in the post so having a new one made up,  which will take about 3weeks.    wouldnt say it was a nice job, quite fiddly but straight forward i just need more paitence.

  20. Emerson park and Romford pretty much next door to each other, i actually have a office in Romford and not a fan of imperial I looked at a RS4 a few years ago and I wasnt impressed if i was honest with you on how they displayed the cars and well the S3 that was on axle stands having both the brakes painted and the leather being repaired in the middle of the forecourt.   I dont like to sl*g anyone off but I can only say what i saw back then and it was a couple of years back.   If you do go for it, i would definately get a proper full inspection done beforehand.  sorry
