Trade tip- soak some make up pads in tar and glue remover, place over the adhesive and leave for 20 mins or so, the adhesive will then simply peel off. Same applies for old wheel weight adhesives.

If you try scratching it off with your finger or a scraper you will only mark the paintwork.

Yes, I found that out, but a bit too late.... The paintwork has gone dull around the area where the badge was.  If I can't get a decent finish on it, I guess that will give me an excuse to have the whole car professionally machine polished, which I wanted to have done soon anyway

Hmmm, never heard of it....I have various label and adhesive removers at work including RS label remover, none of them work as well as white spirit, thing is I cant give white spirit it to my techs as it does not smell of lemons. Meh, bloody pansies.

Yes, weirdly, that stuff does smell of lemons

That is exactly what I did 😀

I've just ordered a caramel wheel to finish off the final bits that are proving to be really difficult to remove.... Never even heard of one before I joined here, hopefully it will make life easier and I won't balls it up

Bugger, who knew something like that even existed?  I could have done with knowing about that before I spent about an hour scratching away at the residue with a credit card and a bottle of "Sticky Stuff Remover".........

"...this makes easy work of what can be a time-consuming and annoying task..."

  5. I finally made a start de-badging the boot lid this afternoon, and quickly realised what a pain it is to get the horrible glue off... I've not finished yet, the badge is off (and definitely staying off) and most of the glue residue has been removed, but the last bits are proving to be annoyingly stubborn!  I will go back to it tomorrow...

I used the cleaner sponge to agitate the roof whilst spraying it with a hose after cleaning to really make sure that I’d got all the detergent out. I was surprised how long it took. I think that may help.

Ah, nice one mate, that's a good tip.  I'll try that next time I wash the car (which will probably be quite soon! )

Slightly less impressive than the diy paint above, but I thought some of you may be interested in the results of my Autoglym roof clean and re proof. It’s the first time it’s rained since I did the job and so far I’m quite impressed

Awesome result :thumbsup_anim:  I used the Autoglym 2 part cleaner and proofer for the first time the other day, and after yesterday's rain it didn't bead up anywhere near as good as yours.  I think I must have not sprayed enough on, maybe I'll try a couple of coats next time to build up the water proofing.

  8. Washed mine (again...) and cleaned/proofed the roof for the first time using the 2 part Autoglym kit.  Seems to have made a pretty good job of it, still a few odd spots in places, but it does look a lot better than it did, so that's a result.  I'm looking forward to the next rain shower when hopefully it will bead up, which has never happened since I bought the car 4 months ago

You should have done that before posting a pic with rusty discs😂 well worth getting the wind deflector so you can have the same rattle the rest of us have! Well some like me who are okay with one rattle in the cabin.I know they are silly money for what they are but worth it..

Ha ha, yeah, unforgivable to post a pic of a rusty brake disc on here, I'm slowly learning all the unwritten rules...

Just to prove I'm a bad boy who doesn't care what you lot think, here's a pic taken yesterday with nice shiny discs, but... wait for it.... weeds on the driveway!!!

Oh, and wind deflectors are for big girl's blouses - There, I said it!

  10. Drove mine with the top down for the first time since I bought it 4 months ago (definite grounds for a ban from the forum there - Or at least a written warning...?).  In my defence, the weather has been pretty chilly since December........

First impressions are.... well, I think you can guess!  Wow, what a car, I loved it before (obviously) and I love it even more now.  The thing that did surprise me is that the engine and exhaust noise didn't seem much louder than with the top up, until I went under a bridge and gave it some beans...  Also, mine hasn't got a wind deflector thingy, but there wasn't really much buffeting and my hair barely moved at all...

Just to clarify, I was driving the car to my Dad's house on the other side of Peterborough to sort out some basic food supplies for him (he's 92, and house bound), and I only put the top down on the way back.

At least all your coolant hoses are better than most..you not been out in it for a while then @Davey P? I wonder why 🥴

Yep, the coolant hoses are definitely all in pristine condition mate

I've only been using the Boxster once a week lately, just to get food for my 92 year old Dad. He's housebound, lives on his own, and has carers in twice a day, but the only way he can get his shopping is for me to do it.  He lives about half an hour away, so I get a weekly fix of driving what is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned :thumbsup_anim:

After washing it yesterday, I decided to wax the car this morning, which is not something I usually bother with to be honest, but I had a bit of time on my hands... I reckon it must be at least a decade since I waxed any car, and I think the bottles of wax I found in my garage were a bit past their sell by date!  I used Maguiers first, but that didn't seem to wipe off very well, so I followed that with some Turtle Ice detailing spray (I don't even know if either of these are still available these days, ha ha!).  That seemed to work a bit better, and the car is now slightly shinier than it was, so I'm happy with that.

  12. Finally managed to give the Boxster a half decent wash, and cleaned inside, for the first time in ages.  I don't think the way I do it can't be described as "detailing", it was just a wash with Autoglym car shampoo, then vac the carpets and used Autoglym vinyl care on the plastics (including under the frunk, which probably amused any neighbours watching...) but it felt so good to give the car a bit of TLC.  It's not quite perfect, but it's close enough for me, and I reckon the old girl does scrub up nicely:

I also finally got round to fitting the new centre caps that I bought from ebay months ago (all pointing towards the tyre valves, obviously!):

Interestingly, the new ones have got twice as many tags on the back compared to the existing ones that were fitted:

And one last photo after I was finished, because.... er.... well, I don't really need an excuse, do I...?

    20200404_161804

And before anyone says it, no, I haven't got any tyre dressing.........
