  1. updated my 'costs' google sheet tracker to include my recent wheel(s) refurbishment and gear oil change.

looked at the total spend (since last July).

    felt a tad nauseous.

    closed the page quickly.

got in the car and went for a blast just to remind me it's money well spent.

such a good machine and never a dull drive.

  2. to answer my own question -

    yes it is worth it.

a noticeable difference, not night and day but enough.

the oil only cost me just shy of £30 and the job was pretty easy all things considered.

I bought a cheap electric oil transfer pump from Amazon which was pretty handy for the job.

  3. also - if you have to compress them to make them bolt up... when the car goes into a rebound state (especially over a hump in the road etc) you may well 'lock out' the dampers and thus the car body takes the wheels with it, which will mean you're either airborne or compromised on grip...

seems to me like these 'might' be dampers that are meant to go with lowered springs...

hope you get it all figured out mate !

  4. thanks so much for everyone's feedback to my post.

I'll give it a go in the next month or so - for what it costs I believe it's worth doing.

assume the drain plug is same as photo below?

    Pic1.jpg

...unless my head isn't wired up right the fill plug is on the N/S of the car?

    cheers,

    Ian B

  5. Hi,

My 3.2s (manual) has around 94k miles on it and as far as I know has never had its gear oil changed.

Is it worth doing and does anyone know if there's a schedule for it to be done?

To me it doesn't look that tricky aside from making sure the drain / fill plugs can be undone...

Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated (also on what oil works best).

    Cheers,

    Ian B

So a better day today (well ish), car finished at the indie, they swallowed the extra bleeding costs etc.

But with fitting quick shift (ebay), bmc filter, gt3 ducts, gt3 master cylinder (pedal is sooooooooo much better), bleeding brakes (1 hour charged only) a faulty roof rod, oil change, new filter and sump gasket, aux belt change, oil etc i didnt get much change from 1100 quid.

The quick shift i have not noticed that much difference... but the gt3 master cylinder was a MASSIVE difference to braking feel.

may I ask the part number for your GT3 master cylinder?

what is the improvement? firmer pedal?

    cheers,

@beaks that looks like a great idea, solves any issues with getting the bumper to fit when there is too much overlap mesh behind the front intake (as the mesh pushes against the intake cowling).

I decided to go fully dark so that I could not see the plastic intake cowling at all from a glance.

thanks man. sometimes it's nice to do something different.

yours suit the colour of your car

(no sh*t, but on lighter cars it doesn't look so good, hence why I did something different)

  8. I decided to do something a little different -

    IMG-1768.jpg

looks a little more subtle with the bumper on -

    IMG-1772.jpg

if I did it again I may have used slightly less 'thicker' grill, but it doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect to cooling.

oh, and yes, the screws are rusty and look gash - new ones due soon!

    cheers,

@beaks, I've made some for mine and an happy to send you the template if that would help? Although biased I think they look really good. I'm in Huntingdon so if you want to swing by and have a look you are more than welcome.

    thanks mate.

I'll give it a try myself and when I (most likely) screw it up I may well take you up on your kind offer!

Didn't think of looking there... doh!

Does seem to be a curious mix of 987s with or without the turret brackets though if it is only listed as a 997 part and not in the 987 cat at all.

yup it's strange. I wonder if only the 'S' variant had them?

or it may just be what they had spare floating around when they built the 987 😄

Referred to as Dome Strut in the 986 parts catalogue.  No indications of fitment only to some types and all the cutaway drawings I've seen of the 986 show them fitted.  Can't even find them in the 987 parts cat.

That said the 987 shell is something like 30% stiffer than a 986 shell to start with.

you'll find them in the 997 catalog 👍

    I can't replace a plug.

honestly bud. if you have a ratchet, trolley jack, axle stands and a big hammer you can do it.

if you’re new to working on cars, it’s a nice little job that you’ll be able to do that’ll give you some satisfaction too.

I looked into this. Its unfortunately a bumper off job. So went for the black zunsports for ease

fair one - although I've had my bumper off (ironically, to replace knackered condensers!) and it was a royal piece of...

I've plenty of pdf's if you ever fancy a try bud 🙂

  15. Hi all,

To give the condensers half a chance I want to fit my own mesh to the front bumper.

I want to fix it behind the slats so a more subtle look than the Zunsports etc...

Has anyone does this before? Any ideas?

Also thinking of mesh type - probably the 'diamonds' should be a good size to allow decent airflow through the condenser and radiators...

Anyway, I'm here to be enlightened !

    Thanks,

    Ian B

I don't suppose anyone has a recommendation of an aftermarket brace? I've looked at the designtek one, I messaged design 911 who stock them and they say the battery covers can't be refitted once this is installed. That puts me off.

both of the RennLine jokers say you can fit the plastic cowl...

    https://www.rennline.com/Strut-Braces/products/199/

and also, the DesignTek one looks very similar to that of the RennLine...

I'd be amazed if the covers don't fit as you kinda need them to be there!
