Please forgive my ignorance, but I presume that with a new barrel I will have to get the keys programmed to the new transponder? Are there any mobile guys that do that? I live in Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire! Any idea of the cost?

You shouldn't need a new barrel, in fact if you're just changing the electrical switch at the bottom, you don't need to remove the barrel.

  2. Check for splits/holes in the foam drip tray where the hood retracts into, and make sure the door liner behind the card is intact as this is also a water seal.

  3. Do what you want, especially if it's a keeper, some things on mine are standard others aren't like the Panamera 18" wheels, double din stereo system, and subtle body kit that came with the car when I bought it.

At the end of the day I'm not going to sell it, so I do what pleases me, and not others 😉😁

Looking good @Elmer Fudd, not seen those lower sills before, look a bit more sporty without being over the top. Looks like a clean car and can’t go wrong with a red interior!

prefer the ambers myself on a 986, but the clears look good with the silver too

Yeah, I like the body kit, kinda looks a bit like the original prototype.

That was an older picture, the headlights now have the Amber indicators, apart from the side repeaters which are still clear.

If you look, you can see the beading for circa 6 inches above the bodywork.

Get the hose on there and be sure its not letting by. Hopefully it is all good.

Not sure where you mean, but I'll get a hose on it. Hope it doesn't leak, if it does I'll have to take it back to the fitter.

That head unit screen looks very reflective.  Bright day, roof down, not easy to read I would imagine.

    I haven't had a problem with it

Your soft top looks good. Is it new or have you used something on it?

    Thanks, It's new.

It does look in great condition.

It is not though unfortunately fitted very well. It is sitting a few mm out of the rain channel and water will get in there (unless he has the hard top on :)

Oh, where abouts do you mean?

I need to replace the exhaust system on my 99 2.5.  I'm after a standard system . Anyone any ideas where to buy and what price to pay ?

How much of the system? If you're just looking to replace the back box and maybe the cat pipes, there's usually a few for sale through breakers or ebay, just make sure the seams are ok. I would get them from a breakers as you normally get better ones, and they will replace if you find a fault.

Think Topgear only do valved ones for the 987 but could be wrong.

Did both of these include the immobiliser chip in the key or were they repairs or replacement of the electronics?  Just replacing the electronics in the key and a new key head transfering the old blade and immobiliser chip cost me £260 at an OPC 2 years ago.  A complete new key will be somewhat more I believe.

Mine was a Complete new key including everything the original one does

That’s really interesting, sounds like the same problem.

What brand did you go for? I’ve heard mixed views on the quality of aftermarket brands.

    I went for this: https://www.design911shop.com/Window-Lift-Cable---Regulator-Porsche-996---Boxster-986--Part-No-99654207504---99654207604-_2_2_2/prod140270/?source=doofinder

Buy original. It's one part that is a false economy to buy aftermarket.

    Bugger 🙄

Won't you have a hole and repair to do if you remove it?

If you really want to sell or gift it, stick and advert up in the for sale section.

I put another boot lid on it, if nobody wants it I'll take it to the tip on Monday.

Was it rattling when up or down?

Both of mine seem to rattle when up, investigation suggests there is movement from the guide on the rail - was this what you had?

It was rattling when up or down over bumps in the road, it was due to wear on the clamps/guides

  12. Fitted/Adjusted R/H window regulator

I was getting a very irritating rattle from the regulator so decided to change it

    Point to note:

On the original regulator the bump stop is here :

But to stop the window disappearing into the abyss when winding down, if you set the new one to here :

    It stops here :

Thus stopping any window rattle! 😁

Jumped the pins on the relay today, stage 2 works on both, stage 1 does not, assume its the resistor pack. No idea whats up with the air-con, gutted as I just replaced both condensers.

You might as well change the fans for the cost

    Very jealous!
Is there a noticeable shorter shift and better 2-3rd ?
I’m thinking about changing mine as yours rather than a short shift kit although mines 6 speed

It's a shorter shift but not overly shorter, it's definitely more positive in every gear, kinda how it should of been in the first place.

Seems well worth it to me especially if you love your car👍
As much peek Bhp as an S, lighter, cheaper tax, win win 🏆

Just need to sort the long shifting to stop it feeling like your stirring a huge bowl of porridge and you will have a cracking 986 👍

Thanks, I  fitted a 987 gear linkage a couple of months ago 😉😁
