Second Hand Market Place

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the "Porsche world" and hence second hand market is tough to for me, in terms of valuation,

I know most cars, rule of thumb, drops 50% in the first 3 years but clearly we are dealing with a difference kind of 'beast' here, so wondered if anyone out there has some tailored specialist knowledge for me to know the private market better.

I'm looking at a 2012 / 2013 high spec'd vehicles, 20k to 25k on the clock, 2 or 3 owners max ... I'm assuming that this sort of car would have been £60k approx. when new, but 4 years on ... what would that be worth now?

Cheers in advance for any help or advice anyone can offer me.

Regards,

I paid virtually list for a 1 year old car with 1700 miles on the clock............the rule of thumb just doesn't. There is no it should have dropped X in X time.

Look for the car your after and if you think its right depending on what the market is currently dictating then it probably is.

Have a regular search on Autotrader and Pistonheads for those sort of models, you'll get a pretty good feel for where the market is after seeing what sells quickly and what doesn't. Don't always trust the initial asking prices as these often drop over a few weeks until they find a buyer. I've seen a few Boxsters in the £15-20k range drop £2k from their initial price before selling.

Thanks for that, looking more in the bracket £30k to £39k so hoping ask price, particularly now going towards Autumn, may be more flexible by circa £2k /£3k.

Does that seem likely ?

I don't really know how that market works TBH, as many of those are in OPCs who don't seem very flexible on price from what I read on here. I suspect many private sellers may be unduly influenced by what the OPCs charge, so might be more accommodating to a cheeky offer if the car has sat unsold for a few weeks, especially as autumn turns to winter.

Dealers try to make about 6 grand per car on 30 - 50 grand boxsters and caymans

of course they do do brakes and tyres if needed, which is usually a grand, service it and a lot of dealers respray front ends and back bumpers for Stone chips, then there's the Vat and tax they pay on profits, commission etc

then they put the 2 year warranty on it which costs about 1,300 - 1,500 quid

a mate of mine was the dealer principle at Leeds for a few years, he told me to shoot for 2 grand off a 40k car and settle for 1.5k at most

i got exactly that after haggling for a few days, seemed like a good deal to me

cheers

Regards,

To give you some advise I paid £41.5k a month ago for a low mileage 981S with 16ks worth of options.

It was a dealer car so came with warranty, new tyres etc.

Thanks for coming onto the forum to help me ... if I may ask, what age is your 981S ... 2013 ? 2012 ?

Thanks for coming back to me so swiftly !

Cheers for the info, appreciated !

Nothing to do with value now ... what colour did you go for in the end ?  I've narrowed down to Agate Grey and White ... possibly GT Silver ...!

Go to http://www.williamscrawford.co.uk/yii/explore/index.php?r=site to give you some ideas and then call them and explain what you are after. I've sourced two Boxsters from them and the service and honesty was superb.

2006 model boxster S with 49,000 miles going for £15,995 on that website, doesn't even have the Satnav or bose upgrade... hmm not really a good price if I am honest.

That has made me feel alot better about the value I bought my car for.

I bought a 1 year older model, 2.7L so not the S version, has satnav and bose upgrade and the S wheels aswell, got it for £7,500 a month or so back. 78,000 miles... does the extra horsepower on the S really put the price up that much?

saying they are honest and pretending to be a customer in the same sentence.... Haha priceless

I can only speak as I find. As an inexperienced first buyer I was well treated by the company and ended up with a great car that I kept for a couple of years without trouble. My 981 is also a great car and supplied in immaculate condition. I have no connection with the company and never have had. Passion for life is my way of getting the best out of what I do.

You registered purely to post a link to your garage that has Porsche cars for sale, you have posted on nothing else at all considering your an enthusiastic owner, not one other post ??? just one spam post redirecting people to your garage...it would have been much more honest if you said .... Hey I work for ..... And we have a few for sale.

If it wasn't incredibly obvious you then took it one step further and chose a username that's the same as your companies motto, chances of that are about a billion to one

then you denied being the garage haha

anyway I have no intention of ever purchasing a car from your place so the conversation is mute

Let's just agree to disagree ....

Basically if you look on autotrader / eBay etc etc you should get a good idea of the market. For your original spec you would typically be looking at 30k - 40k range depending on spec, whether main dealer etc.  I was looking in this sort of area at the start of the summer. Ultimately I bought a 2015 981s with 8k miles with good spec from OPC with 2.5 years warranty for 47.5 k.  I ultimately decided that paying the extra £8k for a 2 year newer car with 20k less miles was worth it for me.

Why would you wait nearly two and a half years though ?

Because you've worked there for a long time

more the point why would you have never posted anything at all when you registered apart from 2 years later when someone's after a 981 and coincidentally they have one for sale

im PASSIONATE about garages posing as customers hahaha, but let's not clog up the thread anymore

You're just cynical, my company has a strap line of 'Passion for developing people' and is nothing at all to do with the motor trade. As I registered 2.5 years ago and have learnt so much from the helpful folks who use this forum It is a little sad to see spiteful comments.
