Driver2107
Has anyone noticed that the doors on the 986 sound tinny and hollow when closed with any force? I've noticed it for ages and want to do something about it to get a more satisfying soild sound. I have tried researching this online but can find nothing, anywhere, leading me to suspect that my car is the only one suffering from this. Perhaps a couple of loose bolts or something similar...If anyone can recommend a solution that doesn't require a trip to a local garage, it will be much appreciated. Thanks. PaulQ
Mine make a nice thud, very nice actually. I expect your window regulator, or something is loose in there.
Jason986S
Mine do sound quite hollow and rattley to be fair. I think my driver's window does need adjusting but I wouldn't describe it as a "bad" or "cheap" sound.
PaulQ
If the rattle is worse when the windows are rolled all the way down, then you are probably missing the stop inside that the glass rests against. Earlier mechs had the stop in place for the 996 which is a bit lower, and you needed to move it, though the lastest oem mech I bought had it in place for the 986. Driver2107
The sound is definitely more noticable with the windows down. Any idea if the stop is an easily purchasable part? I'll have a look inside the door and see if there's a manageable solution. Thanks.
PaulQ
I threw my old mech away, but i think it was just a push in plastic piece. The newer one had a rivet with a plastic collar over it. A self tapping screw with some heatshrink sleeving/insulation tape etc would do the job. Thought I had a picture, but can't find it.
