First of a few posts so apologies in advance,

my new Boxster came with only one key, I know you can get blanks from eBay but wondered if there's a way of getting a second(back up) key that can be coded and work properly without selling a kidney.

To start the car, Timpsons *may* be able to clone an existing key.   This would be a 'start the car only' job and wouldn't include any remote functionality - would have to ask your local branch for costs.

For a key blade only, keysinthepost can supply a blade that will unlock the car (but no immobiliser chip) for under £30.  You can then buy a new case from eBay for about £5, renovate your existing key, then have a spare that will just unlock the car in an emergency.

For a proper key fob, you're looking at around £100 for a key blade with immobiliser chip plus £170-£250 on top for a coded and working remote fob - prices are around the same regardless of whether OPC or Indy (fob is about £130 in parts plus 0.5 hours labour)

Not any of their normal shops.  The machines they have cannot read the transponder chip.  Good for getting an emergency key cut, to get you in the car though. :)

Ah okay.  Keysinthepost is a decent lazy option for that then :P
