karlp606 Posted September 18, 2017 Report Share Posted September 18, 2017 Hi guys, Looking for advice on the boxster Im collecting has no lower part underneath the radio, it just has the ac unit with the radio underneath then no cubby below, Im looking at installing a double din unit, will I need some sort of conversion kit to add the lower centre console/cubby? Is this normal. Mine also has no lower unit as you described it so no where to move the AC unit to free up space for double din unit. You can get them off eBay but not sure about colour matching. These come in different varients and are either 2 cubby holes or a CD changer and 1 cubby hole. I have looked on ebay and there are some listed for around £60 but once you have this part if your looking to go for a double DIN head unit you will need a conversion kit like this- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Din-Stereo-Fitting-Kit-Fascia-Panel-For-Porsche-911-TYP996-986-Boxster-/271074888955?fits=Model%3ABoxster|Plat_Gen%3A986&epid=552540086&hash=item3f1d528cfb:g:eRAAAMXQVERSxs-q This kit as the face plate for relocating the climate control to one of the cubby hole spaces and the others bits needed. Ah okay cool, so I'll need to get the lower cubby from ebay to have a double din bascially, so I can move the ac unit into the lower cubby housing. True but how often are we changing the settings? Apart from defrost my system stays at 18c for the rest of the time. I am about to make some other changes to the interior (gear shift) which might mean the unit I linked to above is a non-starter. Time will tell.
