John K
Hi, Is it possible / practical to make the passenger foot well power socket only live with the ignition? I am currently powering my dashcam from it and its a pain to remember to unplug it when not in use. If its not a simple job, I will ask the local indy garage to look at it. Thanks
rowbos
I know I use my footwell socket to run my CTEK from so in that scenario it’s live all the time. There have been lots of discussions on the forum about when sockets are live. You might be able to modify this behaviour - but I don’t recall anyone ever saying they had done so. Might be worth a discussion with your Indy. Given where you are based will you be using Cotswold Porsche Specialists? I travel from Minehead to use Lee. Just a bit... He helped me get my 987 and I've spent so long at his place (10 mins from my house) chatting, getting advice, drinking his coffee etc that he's considering taking out a restraining order. He is a top bloke I'm a bit paranoid about always on sockets because my 987 is only for fun so it may be laid up for a good long time and I don't want a flat battery. So I'll drop him a line and ask. Ah yes ? If your Boxster is to be sat not being used I would get a CTEK or similar - so you know it will always be ready to go at a minutes notice. Makes sense, use an ignition switched feed and have no more worries about flat batteries...
headless
I've just hardwired my dashcam into one of my other cars, really easy if you buy a hardwire kit of ebay for under a tenner, I'm rubbish at that sort of thing and it took me 10 minutes, most of the time was taken by getting the power cable hidden and going down to the fusebox, it piggybacks off an accessory fuse, so goes on and off with the ignition, really simple and it frees up your power outputs for other things!!! John K
To all those advocating hardwiring, I agree. My dashcams in the Mondeo and departed ST were all hardwired. 1, no hassle and 2, looked neater without cables going everywhere I know my way round lecy so I've no excuse. I was looking for a quick and dirty fix until Spring when it's warm enough to go playing Cheers
NutsyH
Yes possible. I had it done to run my Road Angel, but the cable run was messy so had the Angel hard wired. Socket is still ignition only. I use the one in the ashtray for m Ctek charger. Nutsy

neil.c
The fuses are in the drivers side foot well so it is an easy job to tap off of a switched live from there. I did a permanent live in the past which I think came from the telephone prep fuse.
