Thoughts on using second hand Cats?

So one of my Cats is bust on my 2001 Boxster 3.2 S (some may be aware already from previous posts). I've also got a leak in my exhaust/muffler backbox (not major at the moment).

Dilemma is - Do i replace cats only just now and hope back box holds out for longer or do I take the hit and do both at the same time for efficiency.

I wondered if anyone has replaced Cats with used original Porsche Cats before? Or if its felt it's too risky?  Been quoted £300 for a pair, from a 67,000 miles Boxster. My Boxster 81,500.

The alternative is I get a specialist exhaust company to custom make new stainless steel cats for me and fit them for around £700. They could also do exhaust back box at the same time and may be more cost effective to get it done, both at the same time.

Main question here is, whether it's worth trying to use 'used Cats' or better just going new.

cheers for your help

I had one cat which was damaged so bought a system off ebay minus the back box, it was £40 including postage.

Revolution fitted it for me as they were replacing the IMSB & clutch, both the oxygen sensors failed and had to be replaced so factor those in (and new clamps).

Cheers guys.

I've decided to go for new custom stainless steel cats and backbox.

Original PSE has some splits in it and one cat was bad. Rather than get cats done now and see how long exhaust lasts, and do jobs separately, I've decided just to bite bullet and do it now.

Will probably sell on the original PSE to someone who wants it and will to try and repair it.

Now excited to see how the custom system will sound and perform. Currently choosing tips for it. #boysandtheirtoys
