perleman
Hi all i know it’s been discussed before but I am fed up with the sloppy shifting on my 987s. I fitted the bloke off here’s bearings to the lever and that got rid of the back/forth play, side to side is sloppy though with probably 2-3cm of side to side play plan of attack as follows: 1) use some 0.005 inch shim metal to make a cap over the square piece that goes into the yoke in the side of the lever to lock out any play. I’ve already tightened the retaining bolt as much as possible without the lever binding 2) if this fails embark on a search to find the product or combination of products to get rid of this irritation from the following probably in the following order let me know your thoughts! http://www.function-first.com/products/engine-trans/shift-right-solution http://www.function-first.com/products/engine-trans/shifter-cable-ends https://www.design911.co.uk/mobile/#part;id=127603 And finally this one maybe combined with a new mount if needed http://www.function-first.com/products/engine-trans/engine-mount-insert

PaulQ
Is it actually in the shifter.? Lift up the gaiter and hold the yoke with your left hand fingers How much play do you get now.?
perleman
When I lift the gaiter and immobilise the yolk there is far less movement which makes me think it isn’t in the gear lever mechanism my 997 was the same. My car is 14 years old and 80k miles and as far as I know has never had an engine mount replaced
perleman
Also the car is notchy shifting from 3 to 4, so much so that it feels like it is in 4 and I lift up the clutch only to hear the grind as it wasn’t actually in 4 after all

Synchro shot, gearbox rebuild & new cables sorted it ??

It’s fine when changing normally, but I get a click/clunk sound when shifting quickly. It seems to be related to the speed of the lever movement, it sill happens if you depress the clutch for a second or 2!
