Allan Betts
What is the best gear oil to use in my 987 boxster S ? - Sorry forgot to mention it’s a six gear manual.
dim33
I changed mine last summer. 75W-90 GL5 Originally Porsche recommended GL4 but this has been superseded by GL5. Porsche released a service bulletin at some point advising the use of GL5.
Allan Betts
Sorry for sounding thick, but what make is GL4? - is it Mobil and if so can you use any other products?
edc
GL4 is a tech spec not a brand or product.
knobbly
Go with a fully synthetic 75w-90. I have used Morris Lubricants Lodexol FS 75w-90. The GL part of the spec referes to Gear Lubrication Number. If using a mineral gear oil, you can't mix different GL numbers, ie you can't put a GL5 where a GL4 is asked for. The only deviation form this is if you use a semi, or fully synthetic product, as they will be ok for GL1 to GL5 applications. Hope this helps. CarlM
I was surprised at the improvement it made to my 986.
Freeman
Is it also the oil to be used in the Tiptronic gear box? Thanks
Wrighty987
Anyone drilled a hole in the undertray rather than take the tray out. Seems strange there's no access.
