Oggy172
Get the feeling I'll be low balled by my insurer, if they look at the colour, I'll get a fair value but if they compare to silver etc I'll lose a bit. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how much it was to spec Guards Red when purchasing a 987.1. Thanks
Menoporsche
Cheaper I’d have thought? Solid color rather than metallic?
pipsqueak
Maybe find the answer here , usually non metallics are a no cost choice http://www.auto-brochures.com/porsche.html
Paul P
For insurance purposes it’s more about what the current market is than the original cost. If you compare prices with similar cars on auto trader then I doubt you will see much price difference for or against guards red. They (insurance companies) do factor colour into premiums apparently (especially if it’s a hard to match colour etc. )
Nobbie
Who are you insured with? Seems like specialist insurer is more likely to give a decent payout without a fight. If it's a mainstream insurer you will have a fight on your hands getting a decent payout as 987.1's can be had for very little money at the moment. You'll have to provide evidence of why yours is worth more than average such as mileage, maintenance, options and mods (if you have declared them😉). If yours is a top example, get some examples from specialist dealers to show the insurance company what top cars go for, rather than run off the mill cars from non-specialist dealers. Good luck, hope the neck/back pain isn't too bad today.

frozen
am pretty sure guards red was one of the 4 or so no-additional-cost standard colours - think it maybe still is too. can't see an insurer caring too much about that though as other factors are far more significant in their calculations - so I think nobbie has the right idea. Pothole
As above, Guards was a no cost option new on a 987.
Oggy172
Thanks. I know they'll go off market value & red seems to hold its value better on a like for like basis. I had suspected this was because it was a cost option, which would lend support to my claim. Copart only collect the car today so I guess I'll see the offer at the end of next week. Luckily we have a third car so there's no real impact to my everyday life while I wait & I won't be under pressure to accept a low ball offer due to needing a car. Oggy172
As suspected they low-balled me, £5,800 😕 Quick phone call got them to £6,400 which I continued to dispute. Settled on £7,350, bit lower than I had hoped for but I did read after 3 offers they get harder to negotiate with & it wasn't a million miles off of it's value. Menoporsche
I don’t know the details of your car but I think 987s are available from 8k (lower if tired) so I hope you can get back into one without too much cost.
Oggy172
I'm not sure if I'm going 997 or m235i, perfect time to change really.

Oggy172
I've used the insurance money to pay off her car.... Now she can't argue if I buy a
Oggy172
So I went M235i. Despite a 911 being my favourite car, the terms of advancement in this & the performance I couldn't say no, great VFM.
