Engine air filter not included in a major or minor service.

Just playing catchup on some “optional” service items that I can’t see have been done (drive belt and pdk fluid change, plugs, engine air filter and “airbag service” which is a diag and a stamp in the book)

got quoted what I think is a good price from  opc but was surprised that engine air filter is a once every 4 year item and not included in a major service.  I quoted it but they were sure that was the case.

Anyine else had the same info. ?  Will check the service book when I am back Home to see if it’s listed.

I’m not certain on the 987 but I can tell you on the 981 that engine air filters are not part of the Major Service and the replacement interval is 6 years, so it would be likely that the interval for 987 could be 4 years or more.

My car is a 2011 - no evidence of air filter change in the history and it spent a chunk of its time in London - I am going to ask for the filter back just to see how bad it was (and the plugs because the hoarder in me says "spares")

Just checked - it's 6 yrs/60k on the 987 as well - amazed its not a service item.

Quote I got for my catch up items

PDK clutch fluid change, Air Filter, Drive Belt, Plugs and the "airbag check (diags + a stamp in the book) came to just over £640 inc vat - this will bring the car back up to "spec" as far as service items go (except replacing the tyre gloop)

In theory then if your car was serviced by OPCs then it should have had the air filters done in 2017, did it have a service in 2017?  If so maybe ring the garage and ask what was actually done.

Tried that - nothing from the history I had or what I have been able to get from the OPC's that serviced it before I got it ( it was a little erratic on the intervals but serviced on the mileage previously) so the 6 year items were overdue by the time it got its last service - which was at the supplying specialists when i bought it - they did a minor service and changed the brake fluid and fitted new rear discs and pads - but they didn't do the other items (and at the time I didn't know what the extras were). Theres nothing to confirm that things have been done to suggest it was done same with the other items (pdk fluid, belt and plugs) - so this is a precautionary catchup so I know what I am working from.

Luckily the person before me just did a major 60000ml service plugs the lot a few months before I got the car. And to my delight  a nice invoice for k&n permanet filters fitted to the car.  That and an  invoice for a fully upgraded sound system on it it’s looks like OEM. But sounds fantastic 😘

If/when I swap this one then I will be looking for one that’s had the extras done.

I had factored in the pdk fluid swap and plugs and the belt has been “checked” but planning on some nice trips through the summer and it’s nice to get caught up.

  • 3 weeks later...

Got the various catch up bits done at OPC yesterday - plugs that came out were BOSCH suggesting it has had plugs changed previously, but they were pretty dirty and probably needed replaceing belt looked like it might have been new (but I had no record of if it was done) - and they found the tensioner was seized so I got them to replace that as well. Air filter looks like its been in there 8 years - manufacture date on the filter is 2011 and its pretty horrible. The also changed pdk fluid and the changes are smoother especially on downshifts and its better behaved in traffic - not night and day but I noticed it. I also got the "airbag" check done - for 45 quid I am sure they do nothing other than count them and perhaps run a diag cycle but on the scheme of things it was worth doing and it's another stamp in the book.

On the other side of the filter there's even a few feathers!
