Outside Windscreen Seal has perished

Hey Guys, had a search on the forum and on Google in fairness. The Boxster I am looking to buy has a seal around windscreen on the outside and it’s perished and looks tatty.

Does anybody know what I mean, is it a common issue?

Think this arrow is pointing at the bit I am talking about, sadly I didn’t take pics.

If you need a new windscreen then this is replaced as part of that.

It's a trim more than a seal and I think it clips to the screen under the seal. I don't think it can be replaced in situ.

I watched the chaps replace my screen and they removed the trim and then reinstalled it. From this I deduce you could buy a new one and fit it without removing the glass.

I understand it’s on the “S” but could be on the 5&7 but don’t know. Had my screen replaced recently and the the trim was reused. The fitter told me that they are as rare as hens teeth. Haven’t looked into it but mine has faded

Gummi Pflege is outstanding, I can't recommend it enough. My white bit had a couple of cracks and I had a buzzing noise, applied this and has resolved the issue. Honestly, I'm not sure if the noise was the white rubber or the actual black seal. Applied it to both and the noise has gone. It revitalises rubber, so it will be good for all your seals.

Have a chat with your OPC but IIRC they're two seperate pieces - the rubber and the rigid insert part.

if this doesn't show up then click boster, etc and got to 'bodywork seal and rubber elements', and 'front window trim'.

Hmm my rubber seal just came away and started flapping in the breeze, I can’t see a rigid insert at all, which might explain it!

This post would be at home on www.youporn.c0m 😱😤😳

So I’ve ordered the hard insert (one for @loz987) from rejel but they list a 2002 changeover date. It was only £20 shipped so I’ll see what that looks like when it arrives. Peeling back the rubber that I have got just reveals some old silicon sealant that looks like something I’d use around my shower.

Hopefully this extra bit of trim will do the job.

Do you have a replacement trim to hand? What edge/profile does it have. I didn't think you could replace it without having the screen out. @Loz987 thinks you can but he says his was removed and refitted as part of a screen change.

They took it out with the screen in situ, so could have put it back. They fit the screen then add the trim with the screen again, in situ. So yeah, I think it’s safe to say it’s doable. You could always google it🤷🏾‍♂️

Well I found out why mine didn't have the rigid trim, the windscreen had been fitted too high up the frame, so there is no room for the rigid trim across the top of the frame! Seems the fitter deemed bathroom silicon a suitable alternative.

So it looks like my screen is coming out, hopefully I can get a new one through insurance.

I am confident the trim could have been fitted if the screen was in the right place.

Yeah, my Indie says they had to take the window out to do the trim. So we went with that.

Just read your ownership thread, impressive stuff. I know Raggy from another forum.

When you say he had more to start with with regards to the gains, what did you mean?

My owner thread, which one. Ive got 2 long ish threads on here for both my old and now current Boxster.

I'm not quite following your question re gains? I'll take a guess though. If you're trying to measure performance gains then you have to know the equipment you're using and also need a base line level to start from. That's why I always used the same Dyno and started off with a bog standard spec run. The numbers in themselves are less important but it's the gains you want to look at and where and how they are delivered.
