Extra charging points for phones

I don’t have the phone prep cable on my 996 so looking for suggestions on where to get power for a couple of phone charger leads that don’t stick out of the dashboard.

A fuse tap seems to be one option and taking a feed from the existing live feed on the cig lighter another.

I am thinking of fitting something like this out of view. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CHGeek-Socket-Charger-Waterproof-motorcycle/dp/B07C96SP75/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=USB+car+fitting&qid=1582147117&sr=8-1

Any other options and suggestions please of how to power it?

Not sure what phone you have but mine now charges wirelessly so I have a wireless charging cradle, linked by hidden cable to one of those two-USB cig adapters.  Not in the Box though, and when I've glanced at that (I spend so little time in it, not really worth it) I agree I don't see such an easy mounting point that is also good for using the phone satnav. Down by the knees is good for phone but bad for satnav.

I tapped this into fuse board and is hidden under the dash. It originally powered my Bluetooth adapter for streaming music, but I have now have a Pioneer head unit.

WINOMO Waterproof 12V Car Motorcycle Boat Female Cigarette Lighter Socket https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VJS6PBA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Y-LtEbWZVDYV2

Left it in place for some future requirements as hidden and may prove useful 🤔

I think my phone (XR) does wireless charging. I can remember it being hot and surprising full of charge after a journey in a hire car last summer when I placed it on the centre console for a journey. I have been clipping it to the drivers side air vent and that's ok for sat nav. I am thinking of a short lead in that corner of a car.

I have seen the fuse taps advertised but never used one. Do you happen to know what fuse you tapped into please?

C1 - it's a switched live. On my gen 2 it was blank and not used.

As I went carplay/android auto I swapped out my CD tray for a cubby hole so I could store my phone , relocated HVAC down to the base slot and replaced the cigarette lighter with one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TNP-USB-Flush-Mount-Cable/dp/B077TG6S5R/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=usb%2Bextender%2Bin%2Bcar&qid=1582267232&sr=8-15&th=1&psc=1

Mine doesn't have the aux on it though, the usb plugs straight into the carplay unit.

I am not sure if the cigarette lighter is a switched live, but that connector I utilised as a ground for the radio (as an alternative to the handbrake input ), if not changing radio you may be able to use that connector as a power source for a charger

One of these will fit neatly into the blank opposite the cigarette lighter socket and give you two USB sockets to charge two phones at the same time. The flip over cover can be removed as it is simply attached to a rubber gasket so can be cut off. A very neat and tidy solution which is totally reversible.
